Mentoring new reef keepers?

is there anyone will to be my mentor? my tank is right around two years old mostly lps and zoas with a monti cap and birds nest. coralline algae is growing like crazy. having to clean it off my front and side glass every couple days. im ready to make the move into acros.

That is what the reefsquad is for that we have in place currently.

If you see a member in need and they are getting advice you don't like, tag #reefsquad and it calls all of them in to help. Hopefully the new member will see that they are getting help from a squad member and ignore the not so great advice.

How do we know who the #reefsquad are?

I actually like the mentor idea. I could sure use some help lol

Im late to the party but I wouldn't be for it. Even though Im 15 years into the hobby Im still learning new things all the time. That came from hearing other opinions and seeing what works best for me. This is a tuff tuff hobby and losses are a big part of it. It can be very discouraging at times but at the same time very rewarding.

Bob, you would be a mentor I would want. Because we SHOULD always be still learning if we aren't learning any longer I believe we would have become close-minded and unteachable. That would be the one I would want to stay away from.

Agreed :) Just tag the squad and they'll come running, keyboards at the ready. Part of the issue with doing everything via pm, is none of the information is out there for others with similar questions to view. It's all kept private.

If I may speak on behalf of a noob, I found it comforting to have a mentor or in my case, a few. I would like to see an OPTION for someone to have a mentor. Sometimes I felt so embarrassed to ask questions publicly. I got some pretty far out answers at the LFS. If it weren't for "the 3 wise men" on here, I would have failed at this. I am forever grateful.
You asked questions? LOl - came a long way Katrina!!

So who is going to hold my hand on a 280 gallon system?

We're all here for you. I happen to be a BIG tank person

I am not kidding. I have questions. First I have to get all the crap out of the garage from moving.
How many and what size holes
pumps
Sump is going to be a 55 or 75 with a kit in it
Probably get a second Photon V2 48 and use the light I have now
36 inch steel stand I am going to clad it to match the paneling in the basement

I am taking names and writing them down.
THE LIST
Vetteguy53081
Flippers4pups
I have a configuration done with custom aquariums but am waiting to hear back from Tankme.

I mentor people frequently but on my behalf, I view it as sharing experiences and promoting success than mentoring. Always happy to help, answer and offer tips and advice

I’ve done my 125 and in the past had a 200 Oceanic. They kinda qualify as big tanks! Lol

I’ve locally done a little consulting on peoples systems.

Thank you for mention.

How many and what size holes - TOTAL OF 3 HOLES. TWO FOR OVERFLOW AND ONE FOR RETURN. 1.1/8 - 1.1/4" FOR OVERFLOW AND 3/4" - 1" FOR RETURN
pumps - Danner supreme, Sicce or DC pumps such as Octo, or Jebao. Vortech Vectra nice, but too many field issues

They are big tanks. Anyone with more than one tank is officially engaged in tank management
