Metal Halide T5 Hybrid Users Thread

Nice work. I do not supplement my new tank with T5, but I do have a VHO supplemented tank that I can get a photo of later. There is a guy who is struggling with ap700 alone that I am going to link here since you summed up in post #9 what I try and say a lot but do not do a good of a job with.

I swapped from LED/T5 Hybrid to a Giesemann Infiniti with Phoenix 14k and 3 B+ and 1P+ bulbs. Things have been growing great for me.

Heat hasn't been that bad either. The tank temp rises by 1.5-2 degrees when the halide is on.

Just a happy heads up for ya'll. Dr Foster Smith has Hamilton 20K 250watt screw in metal halide bulbs on sale for 26 bucks a piece right now. I scooped up three ;)

Is that the new 20k or the old one? They are both good... new one has more output and looks more like Radium 20k. Old one is a bit bluer, but still a really nice bulb.
That's a good question, i'm not really sure. How do you tell the difference?

I am not sure, but Dave is always helpful. I do not think that it matter and you will like either, but it is good to know for expectation setting and for giving advice online.
Emailed. Awaiting a response:)

I ran the Hamilton 20k in my previous tank(DE) and it didnt hold a candle to the 14k Phoenix. I run Radiums now but if we had Phoenix on mogul style, I would be all over it

Ive bought awesome frags from a guy running G4radions. They have been in my tank now for 2-3 weeks under Radiums and I am very impressed how easy it is getting coloration under these lights. I loved my G4 radions and orphek but boy, halides are halides

You guys are honestly making me wanna bust this badboy back out and out it on my tank... I just got two new 150w 14000k bulbs yesterday for it too... only thing is that it has only two t5 bulbs so not sure that is enough... what do you guys think?

Great choice @Crabs Mcjones to have moved to halides . Corals growth and color aside - a reef doesn't look alive without a halide . It just doesn't look right . Its a video so you have to click it to go to flickr to play it :)

I personally do not like radium even run on M80 but thats just stupid me . Looks of a reeflux / xm / hamilton at 10K is like a shallow reef picture to me

Here's mine with a 10K 250 watts xm bulb , 2 ATI coral plus and 2 ATI blue plus :-

@Abhishek do you notice much better growth with the xm 10ks vs Radium on m80s?

Honestly I do not care about faster growth as its already pretty fast and if anything I want to slow down their growth so that I have enough time for my upgrade coming up :)

I donot wish to start a fight or war here as it has been the subject of quite a lot of debates over the past 10 years :)

That said - yes, I have ran them both and nothing comes close to a xm growth provided all other parameters are steady. Lighting comes third in my list of priorities after water chemistry and flow .

14k Phoenix used to be available in Mogul, but it was slightly different. They have not made it for years.
The day light look of the phoenix is

Outstanding reef! Is this a single ended bulb? I really like a daylight, warmer color myself

Thanks for the compliment . Appreciate it ! Yes it's a single xm 250 but in a Hamilton comuzel reflector which can evenly lit I think 3 x 3 area or even 4x4 area ! Amaxing coverage from this sucker much like the old lumenarc 3 large reflectors .

Thanks! 2-150 watt Hamilton 20k halide bulbs with all geismann T5 bulbs. 3 blue actinic and 1 super actinic. Ran the ATI bulbs for years and decided to try geismann, wish I did it sooner.
Hey, how did you like the geismann over the ati bulbs? I was thinking of getting 4 blue+ and running a pair of radium 20k.

Where can you find the xm bulbs for SE? I'm having a hard time finding them.
