Hey, how did you like the geismann over the ati bulbs? I was thinking of getting 4 blue+ and running a pair of radium 20k.


Where can you find the xm bulbs for SE? I'm having a hard time finding them.

Tough mate !!! They have stopped making these beauties as even metal halide users use only ushio or radiums . I did send you a pm .

@Lilmatty5dimes I like the geismann bulbs better than ATI. I visually liked the look better and the corals did very well under them. I ran 3 blue actinic and 1 super actinic. Check out the Hamilton 20k halide, you wont be disappointed

I've got a Hamilton 20k I may throw in the other fixture to try it out. I'm going to be making the floating canopy here soon.

For my latest tank I wanted to focus on SPS... So I wanted to not worry about my light. 48" Giesseman Spectra, 2 x 250w Radiums + 4 Blue+ T5. I love it.

Well, I've got 2 250w radium 20k and 4 blue+. This is just the blue+.
First pic is 6500k with the plastic tape on the reflectors
2nd pic blue+ without the tape.
3rd pic FTS with just blue+

Halides are going up today.

Meanwhile, my Radions have been relegated to viewing light while the 400 watt Hamilton 20K is pulling the weight.

I'm thinking the Radions will be up for sale pretty soon and I'm going to grab either ReefBrite or Orphek strips. I'm torn as to whether I want to go with an actinic or 50/50 spectrum as I don't like the super-blue look.

The 150w HQI biocubes are nice. ...they can get hot if you do not have a fan.

Since I've been getting into acros, I'm wondering about metal halides. I have a 36" 70gal tank and was wondering if the Hamilton Cebu 36 in 2 X 250w would be too much light. What do you guys think? Tank is about 18 in deep and 2 ft wide.

That light would be great! You could possible go with a single bulb and raise the fixture a bit if you wanted. Maybe place lower light corals on the outskirts of the tank.

I would not want to go with a lower wattage personally. You could use 250w Radiums in that fixture which many people have had great success with. You can just raise the light up some if you think you're getting too much light. My tank is 19.7" High and I use 2x250w radiums and 4x54w T5s over my tank and it seems to work well for my acros.

I appreciate the feedback. I have the aquatic life hybrid with an AP700 and I am able to grow acros but I can't escape the shadowing that I get from using the AP700. Using the seneye I can see PAR drop off outside of the direct blast of the light. I guess that's why Kessil created the A360x. At least you can space them and move them around.

So, I made the switch. Using the Hamilton 2 X 250 w 36" fixture. The corals seems to love this light. I have it about 12" above the water. I want to lower it but will take my time. The halides provide great par throughout the tank. I used a seneye and I am getting about 250 par at the upper 2/3 of the tank and closer to 300 towards the middle. Looking forward to seeing my corals color up from this light. Polyp extension was great today, on my first use. The fans help a lot. Temp only changed from 77.4 - 77.9. Keeping my aquatic life hybrid handy just in case.
