Michael's Reefer 170

Major rock in. Will be curious if it needs to leach PO4 more. Probably reuse another much smaller island from existing AIO on the right. Things may move

The GHL holder for float sensors, just an acrylic rod, perfectly fits in the spot where the RS float value lived. Got lucky there. Will use a high + low water mark as both an email alert + safety on the ATO and return pump. The GHL probe holder just fits.

That last shot is a "thing of beauty". ;Singing ;Singing ;Singing

Looks ;Watching like they NYOS is a perfect fit from here.
Kudos to PA for making it right. :)

The NYOS arrived today, big thanks to Jason & Luke at Premium Aquatics for great customer service and quickly shipping me a replacement.
  • This one included the pump mount w/all screws
  • The venturi on this one wasn't scratched to h*ll
  • This one included a NYOS brochure will all their products.
  • The skimmer cup connects to the body smoothly (the other one required enough force that I never attempted to attach it)
Looks great. It's all hooked up and running. Letting it break it. The pump is quiet, the lid rattling on the cup is annoying but some tape or paperweight will fix that. The NYOS 120 includes a quick start manual for the 160

If Premium Aquatics wasn't so cool, could have been ugly.

Trust me youll find a bottle of something to pop on top of the cup. Mine did stop vibrating over time and i realized not to long ago i no longer needed the extra weight.

Good to hear the skimmer got sorted!
I was gonna say watch the GHL probe holder as I had two rust but yours looks slightly different, has 4 mags instead of 1 long one.
Looking very nice!

Thanks! It's definitely 3 separate magnets in a single piece of acrylic. Looks very similar to my Vertex algae magnet.

Nice, they must have changed design at some point.. I did have a photo somewhere but the ones i had had the single magnet like i mentioned but it was sealed on one side with a plastic strip instead of totally encased in acrylic, on both this eventually came off and exposed the magnet.

The rock you added has a cool shape!

It's a bit bright. Things need to be cleaned up, but it seems functional. Using a Geo's Reef reactor, the popular AquaMaxx is sold out. Will clean up plumbing and wiring soon. Waiting on my Ikea cabinet to hold all the wiring.

The bottom fed GEO reactor is perfect with your pump.

Are you going try to run it on a night time light cycle?

Initially yes. The reactor is supposed to help with two goals 1) nutrient export and 2) increased pH. I live in a co-op in NYC, so I imagine CO2 has to be a problem.

I don't have a controller on my AIO, so I don't know. I currently only enable my ATO w/kalk during the evenings on my AIO to aid in pH, but I don't have any numbers. Now with the Profilux I'll have data.

Winter should be the pH challenge, I expect it not to be an issue in Spring / Fall.

+ 1

I can purchase an identical reactor and just plumb the output of the macro-algae reactor into the input of the carbon reactor and run both Geo's Reef reactors off a single Sicce ;Happy

@dmw913 had Blue Tide Acrylic build her a custom dosing container, so I had them build me a custom ATO container. Same height as the sump, so it creates a shelf for my media reactor. Fits perfectly. I highly recommend those guys.

The reactor looks very DIY, need to cable wrap some items. All the plugs are in a little Ikea cabinet on the left

They did a super job building your ATO container.

Looks a great and a perfect fit. :D

Just sitting back and taking it all in. ;Wideyed

To me it looks like you have taken full advantage of the sump cabinet that you have and you can still get to anything in there with ease.

Looks like the NYOS has been a good choice. :)

Thanks. No pics of the Ikea cabinet because it's as messy as you can imagine. Some power cords are very short (NYOS) while others are ok. I need extension cords just to get everything nicely mounted. I'm probably gonna need another GHL Powerbar, but I'm not positive yet. FTS of the tank this week.

Everyone runs Chateo in their reactor, but Algae Barn had a few macro algaes, so I put them all in. The red macro algae basically went white while running the reactor for just a 1/3rd of the night. I didn't use as much light as some people use, so I'm hoping it will be ok with the Chateo. I'm running 90 minutes on, 30 off during the night now. Will see if the Chateo is getting burnt or not.

Your my guinea pig.
Tagging. :)

Love the guys at Blue Tide! Great communication and even better craftsmanship. Glad you liked them too! Sump looks well put together although I did get a giggle at all the rubber bands on the reactor. ;) I used a couple of velcro ties that have held well as another suggestion.

How do you like your Nyos??? I really went back and forth between it and the Deltec. It was a toss up at the end.

This build is looking GREAT!!! I agree with everyone above that the Mitras looks phenomenal! Just a well designed piece of hardware. Glad you like the Varios. For the price, silence and ability to connect right to Apex, really can't be beat IMHO. My husband nixed the white stand so I'm jealous. I really wanted to give it a try. Very clean looking.

Keep up the great work! (And double check your salinity so you're not an idiot like me!!! ;))

Your build thread helped me go with Blue Tide & Reef Octopus Varios, so thank you!

Yeah, I'm still tinkering with it. I'm genuinely worried about heat. There are lots of threads about people starting a macro-algae reactor, but few who have run them for months or a year. There are a few posts of them cracking and leaking after a long time.

I think ReefBum and others are pushing the heat angle to sell Pax Bellum, but it is a concern. I'm not going to wrap it in vinyl yet and I'll monitor the heat. I asked one of the reactor manufacturers and they guessed it would work for a few years before cracking. It depends on the lights and other factors. If I had space, I would have done the Pax Bellum just because it's a known quanity.

Love the NYOS, the first once I received was broken and poorly built which is hard to explain. The replacement unit is perfect. Another thread on R2R said the NYOS was quieter than the Deltec, that heavily influenced me.

@MrMichael

Even Pax-Bellum recommends that you replace the inner light tube/diffuser plates once a years, but they have an updated version coming out that is "Indestructible high temperature amorphous green plastic".

And a new line of cheaper ARID reactors will be announced at MACNA!
