Michael's Reefer 170

I also dose Red Sea "Reef Energy" just about every evening.
If you start the RE and you see a greyish matter on your live rock, then cut back on the dose.

Thanks for the tip on overdose! I'm currently dosing 3ml every 3 days, very slowly working my way up :)

WWC Live Sale. Popped in for an hour late Sunday, did some damage, and ran away. Delivery tomorrow

Looks like an amazing selection. I can't wait to see how they look under your lighting.

Thank you. Will try to get both daylight + actinic shots this weekend.

World Wide Corals
  • Their corals really do look that good, it's not photoshop
  • I purchased a space invader pectina and a favite at NY RAP, both looked and still look amazing
Sadly the silver surfer was broken in three pieces while wwc slimeball was off his plug. The slimeball should be fine and I glued the silver surfer pieces to a rock, he might make it.

Will post pictures this weekend.

I scored 5 from the sale....and I always like the size and quality of frags they sell. The slimeball is a stupid one it breaks too easily. I broke it three times and now put them on a single frag mount. But I just love the odd look of it.

Agreed! The frag shape is interesting and I hope it continues grow oddly. You need to update your build page with your haul :)

Yeah, I will. Currently researching how my tank with such high NO3 and PO4 looks so clean and the corals are growing great including my SPS army with such colours. Looks like all the nutrient things for SPS are myths but still trying to lower it down very slowly.

I saw your post. When they published those articles of tanks from 'masters' there are clearly people with high nutrients. There is someone Salty always mentions who writes articles on high nutrient tanks.

The high nutrient tanks tend to be very high flow + high light, yes? Your ratio of N to P is sort of nice also, right? Your N & P are the same ratio as the ideal level, just multiplied by 8x.

How many people have high nutrients, in the same ratio, where corals aren't drowning in algae? The sample size is probably small. Most of those tanks are drowning in algae or P > N.

I always thought the zeovit ULNS was mostly to starve the coral, then dose particular elements, to achieve a unique pastel look. It wasn't about achieving fast growth w/natural corals, but how to achieve a unique look. It sort of seems like ULNS got assumed as the way to grow coral, rather than a way to achieve a specific objective.

I'm still a BIG fan of running the ideal numbers if you start with dry rock for a awhile until the system matures. Letting things go to 0.0 or running high nutrients with you start with dry pukani seems too risky.

@MrMichael @Anirban
I hold my phos. and nitrates to UL range but I don't feel like that I'm stripping out the nutrients.
I dose Reef Energy almost ever night. My water is very clear, but if I ran ROX with the Purigen reactor I would be stripping out the nutrients.

I put the Red Sea "Reef Spec" carbon in the sump one time. Between that and the Purigen reactor my water was almost too clear and it did strip out all the organics/nutrients.

Took 2 days before my acans opened back up. :)

@GoVols, Your tank is dialed in :)

That the gotcha with 0.0, it's like an empty plate. Is it empty because all the food was consumed or is 0.0 because there was never any food ;Bookworm

Micheal,
LOL!!!!!!!
I had to get the "Reef Spec" carbon out of there... ASAP!!!!
I was dosing the RE big time, to get my method back into, it's rhythm. :D

Well, if you ever want to have more problems than time, you should just switch everything over to Triton one weekend :-)

Yeah somehow everything is balanced and very steady. As far flow concern yes my tank flow can blow almost every ones mind but if you see my acans and favias you dont trust how much flow I have in that tank. Light I dont know but its enough that I can say.

Lol!!!

Get the detritus out... (Python) water changing junkie, over here :)

I took reference photos of new frags, but not worth sharing, two nice pics below.

2 frags were broken from WWC, but those fragments are showing full PE and seem the happiest of the bunch. I have good PE on 1/3, some PE on another 1/3, and no PE on the other 1/3 of frags. It's been exactly a week, so I'm hopeful they just need to settle.

Nutrients are too low, removed the phosguard I added for initial diatoms. I'm feeding daily and there are some uglies, so it's can't be a real 0.0. Noticed a bit of coralline on new powerheads.

I'll let the filter sock sit longer than normal. The macro-algae reactor is running 24x7, the Sea Lettuce (Ulva Lactuca) started growing fast and all the Chaeto died. I'm researching if I should dial the light back and throw out the Sea Lettuce and replace the Chaeto. Theory being I over-lighted the Chaeto, but not Sea Lettuce. I guess there is a danger Sea Lettuce will escape and I should be using Chaeto only??

My favorite by far, Space Invader from WWC

The WWC Silver Surfer broke into 3 pieces, so I have now 3 baby frags (all happy)

Micheal,
They look really good. :)
Has your GHL's came out of acclimation mode?
