so the instructions say i have to mix the dose with 8 ounces of water from my tank.

why is this and what if i dont do it?

It's to dilute it in advance so you're not pouring the straight concentrated amount straight from the bottle. What if you don't do it? Nothing really.

While I probably *should* dilute my supplements, I add so many that it's logistically very time consuming. So I try to add slowly to an area where there's a lot of flow, ie: into the return outlet water stream.

Yea when I did add it directly I would do it as slow as possible into high turbulence but I’m just wondering why concentrated Mb7 would be so bad?

The instructions say also to use a syringe to extract it from the bottle, which is what makes it sound like more than just dilution.

I've wondered the same thing but I've used it both ways, ones obviously easier

I add it to sump direct and have return pump distribute it evenly
Dont add to tank directly unless well diluted

Yea but why?
It would be like feeding the coral direct bacteria. They will close up and be subject to stress. The bacteria spores in the bottle are not active and become active after adding them to the tank.

I use about 2.5ml every week when I do water changes and I've never diluted it. I'm one that reads directions and must have missed this. Even when I was dosing the seeding amount I never did. Never noticed any problems. I'll probably start diluting it from now on tho.

never diluted it either... even added a capful here or there to a 7g

I add it to the sump and let return pump disburse it evenly

I pour direct. Never made sense to dilute with tank water. Do however pour slowly where water is circulating. Do this with anything dosed manually

This is interesting. I have the Microbacter Start XLM which can be used on established systems as well as new ones. It's also highly concentrated. I just reread the instructions in case I missed something and it doesn't say it should be diluted first. Maybe the bacteria is different? One thing I did read that I missed the first time is that it can make the tank smell "earthy". Maybe all the people posting that their tanks smell earthy are using Microbacter. LOL

Newbie question but seems like people are doing it -- why would you bother adding Microbacter to established systems?
I was told it can reduce nitrates and phosphates so if that's a problem then maybe this is a solution. I think I also read on their instructions to use it if you think your tank might crash or is crashing to help build up the bacteria. I'm assuming this is if you have a bad ammonia spike. I haven't looked into this yet.

Because a truly established tank is very old. 1 year or even 2 can be a relatively new tank. It also helps with water clarity, detritus, and nitrates apparently. Not really sure about the last 2 but I think the water clarity thing is true from experience.
