Hello All! My first post. I’m struggling with microbubbles. I wanted to see your contraptions made for catching microbubbles. Please send a photo and description how it works. Thank you.

Have you tried a filter sock?

Planned to do that, but some people say that their tanks do a lot better without the socks.

I may be off-base here, but I think those people are referring to running without socks on a well established system while using something like the Triton method where the socks are a hindrance. Outside of those circumstances, I really haven't heard much outcry against the use of socks.

Seems to me that simply running a typical sump setup without socks is sort of asking for your pumps to get gummed up with gook or a snail lodged inside.

Socks are only a hindrance to the reefers that hate cleaning them out.
They do catch bigger particles before they can get caught up in needle wheels but they are not something necessary.. For a while people were concerned that they would become nutrient sinks but now a lot prefer some in their system... It is a major debatable topic that will have several outcoms..

No socks for me.
What does that have to with microbubbles?

New skimmers make them and they will go away. Your drain can make them if it runs with air in it. Any pump can make them if it gets air into it. This even includes wave pumps that can suck a vortex of air down from the surface.

What you do depends where they are coming from.

I am sure most of the microbubbles come from the drain.

+1

Worth repeating, so here I re-posted it. :)
