I am looking for advise on a $50 or so microscope. I think I found an amscope on Amazon that would work. I thought I would see if anyone had suggestions on one, before I bought one.

What do you need it for? I looked a lot at scopes and really can depend on type, photo, usage, etc. Most I found that were good for simple examination of fish scales, tail, fin, gills was minimum $200 or maybe a bit less.

All the "cheaper" ones were not worth it. However, I wanted a bifocal optical rather than a singular, so could affect pricing.

Well, that is not what I wanted to hear. :)
I want it to look at stuff like algae and cyano and that kinda thing. I supposed I might look at scrapes of fish stuff if I get an infected fish, but mostly stuff growing in the aquarium. Monocular is ok with me.

You could get away with a cheaper one probably. I have a one for kids programs that hooks onto a computer via usb cable and can see algae and such pretty good. Not sure about cyano or diatoms though. Just make sure it is not a kids microscope and has proper optics and you should be fine. You should fine one around $100.

I just wanted to follow up and share that I purchased this microscope and we have been so very happy with it. Next I will order a phone mount as it is hard for me to get pictures.

I ordered the phone mount and it leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe look into the cheaper cameras that you can use in the eyepiece

It isn’t true if there aren’t pictures! ;)
