Ok thank you. Do you know about nonephotosynthetic corals as well ?I personally try to keep mine at 9.5. It usually keeps me out of trouble![]()
I personally have not messed with nps, however I do know they must be fed frequently to stay happy. I am sure there are a couple guys on here that know way more than I about nps that can point you in the right directionOk thank you. Do you know about nonephotosynthetic corals as well ?
This is usually the case for ulns where alk over 8 will burn the sps. As long as you have some nutrients alk up to 11-12 can be fineWhy some people do not suggest alk higher than 8 ppm on sps tank?
Is 9 dkh Ok with 0.03 po4 and 6 no3 ? What is the advantage of high alk. on sps dominated tank ?This is usually the case for ulns where alk over 8 will burn the sps. As long as you have some nutrients alk up to 11-12 can be fine
Yes because that's not ulns, nowhere close. There has been proof that higher alkalinity will make sps grow slightly faster. What I mean by higher would be 11-12 dkh. I find 9 to be an ideal target for dkh because it's in the middle of the recommended range and will allow more room for error. If you keep it at 11 and there's a 2dkh increase that puts you outside of the ideal range, same as 7 decreasinghttp:// 2dkh.Is 9 dkh Ok with 0.03 po4 and 6 no3 ? I bought a new yellow milepora ... I will keep po4 at 0.03 ppm. And no3 at 5-10 ppm. And I will be able to drop 9 dkh. And it won't harm my sps corals. Thank you very muchIt should be fine, but you don't want a large change in a short period of time. Try to shoot for no more than 0.5dkh each day and there should not be any issues. It's more stressful on sps to increase than to decrease.
I have 0.033 phosphate , 10 No3 for now. And 8.7 kh. Will it cause any problem if I increase alkality until 9.6Also, look at getting some acro frags, they tend to be a little bit more hardy than whole colonies.
It should not hurt anything, just raise it slowly overtime.I have 0.033 phosphate , 10 No3 for now. And 8.7 kh. Will it cause any problem if I increase alkality until 9.6

I personally feel like it will be a better move for your long term success with sps to keep your alk up around 9.6. once your colonies become happy, you will be quite surprised at how fast they consume alk. Cal. And mag. You are going to have to raise your dosing amount more and more as you add things to your tank, and they start getting happy and will start growing. I had to raise my dosing by 15 ml over the course of two weeks recently because my acros really started to kick in growth. The main reason I keep alk a little high, is to give me a little insurance policy in case coral consumption increases dramatically, which believe me, it can and will. What if it hurts sps corals ?
