The software is not perfect, but I found in my experience that once I learned the “GHL language” so to speak everything became easier. Their GHL Connect app is also getting better, and they’ve got more YouTube how-to videos. I’ve also had the fortune of spending an hour on the phone with Marco talking about how to program it which was very helpful. Despite the weaker software, neither my doser or Mitras lights have failed a program once set, with or without WiFi.

^^^This But as stated...once you are satisfied with your lighting program you really have no reason to access it unless you want to tweak somehting at some point.
Regarding software ---> Apex, GHL, or Ecotech... I think I will be good to go. I am an industrial controls engineer by trade and have seen some extremely "kludgy" interfaces in my day. The interface on my GHL Doser 2.1 is actually better than some German industrial systems I have had the pleasure of working on.

I pulled the trigger on three GHL LX7's. It is going to be roughly the beginning of the year until I get the 150 up, but I will post up my experience with the lights as I figure them out.

Best advice I can give you is to get your wifi settings, fan settings, temperature settings and any power adjustments you want made before hanging them over your tank. Almost everything else can be set with wifi but I find using the USB connection on an installed fixture to be a bit challenging.
I want to echo @Brew12 and also if you want to really play with spectrum before deciding, and output directly to lamps, do it with USB. WiFi works well but I find for heavy usage usb is better. Feel free to DM me as I’ve done everything from first install to firmware update with the LX7, happy to help trouble shoot if you run into any challenges!

I'm also a Mac user but never had problemas with GHL involving PCs and Macs. I run Parallels whenever I have to use a PC program and that makes the transition very very easy.

The best advise I ever got about spectrum is...once you are happy with the result....don't change it! I agree that changing spectrum is far easier via USB than via WiFi. For me that is an added advantage as it prevents you from changing too often.

@Peppe - I like my Lx7 a lot. On the GHL face book page you an see some tanks that are utilizing them.
I like the features and spread of the light and the build it reflectors eliminating hot spots. Very easy to setup and control via the GHL control app.

Up to 7 over my 7’ tank
Regarding coloring up of SPS, I think the main thing is achieving the par level required for some of the more finicky acros that don’t achieve best coloration until super high par levels. It’s why I have 7. If you aren’t keeping those types of acros, then you’ll be fine with a fewer number or combining it with T5.

I was finding it hard to get really even lighting at really high par levels. If you’re keeping more of a mixed reef, it’s more than enough. I was trying to get to 450+

You also need to change energy settings. Adjust brightness level til you reach desired par levels. I only have to go to 80 because I have so many lights. You may need to go higher.

Keep in mind that I tweak the lighting profile from time to time. I've been running this a few months. Ever since I scored 2 more used Mitras from here. With a light every foot, and the actual LEDs (not covers) about 7.5” off the water, I get about 450 par (Apogee 510) on my highest rocks, and about 300 at the sand. I keep my rockwork quite low to leave room for growth, and my tank is only 22" tall. No bleached acros. Honestly, I may increase the brightness in a month.

Be careful with the UV channel. I singed some acros when I had it turned up very high. I even managed to burn green skimmer at the bottom of the tank! Some of the acros loved it though.

Can you post pics of your reef? what kind of corals do you breed?
