Hello!

So i have my tank completely filled of RODI water. I had planned to mix the salt in as it's a new set up. The guy at the LFS told me to just add salt to the filter sock and not add it into the DT. I Figured the DT would be best because it has the power heads and the return to help mix the water.

Thoughts?

EDIT:

ALSO! I had a question. With the water and everything up and running, the return into the DT from the pump is super loud, there is a slit below the Y that expells water and water is poring out from it back into the overflow. Is my water level to low? Should that slit be under water? The Overflow is lower than my DT water level, but i ran out of RODI to fill it up. And i was afraid of adding too much water.

I would put the salt in the filter socks. That way any impurities that don't dissolve will be filtered out. You also don't have to worry about a clump not dissolving properly.

Low water level should cause a problem in the sump, not the DT. Sounds like something isn't set up correctly. A picture would help.

Perfect! I will throw it in the Sock, i've got about.... 48 x 1/2 cups left to go to get me in the ball park of where i need to be ;)

Here are a few pics. The hole was put there intentionally I believe. (It's a used tank and used plumbing) it's spraying onto the wall of the overflow and not out of where the return Y's off. I don't know if the water is to low in the overflow or what. It's just louder than I was expecting

The hole was probably drilled as a siphon break so I believe you are correct that it should be under the water level.

Okay, there is a pretty sight difference in water level in my tank because u ran out of water (ill make more tonight) but this is a side veiw from the tank vs overflow.

doesn’t matter if you add salt to the sock or dump it in the dt. it will all mix just fine. this is only ok when starting a new tank.

if you have an anti siphon hole it should NOT be underwater.

and judging by your last photo your durso isn’t keeping up with your pump. a little too high for my taste.

So the weird thing is, it fluxuates. I might have to much water in my sump :/ I could close up the pump a little.

1D5B075B-113A-4FFE-AD57-7A67CA4F775D.jpeg Just a heads up that hole is a symphony break in the marineland cornerflow durso kits. It 100% is annoying and 100% is expected by marineland for you to just deal with it. It’s drilled to ensure water doesn’t travel back down the return but it’s the loudest part of the system. You can block it, but run the risk id your y is angled down of draining a significant amount of water to your sump.

I have a 93 cube and keep the y high enough that only about 4 gallons will drain down if it’s clogged and back siphoned.

Hm it's not letting me upload a video, but the water level in the over flow is always changing is that normal?

oh as for the leak. unscrew the locline, use plumber’s putty like lasco joint stik and screw it back on. it will be water right then.
Others are saying it's supposed to leak
Here is a better picture with the canopy off.

It's leaking from the bend shooting into the overflow wall. I do believe it is an antibiotic siphon. As for the overflow these pictures were taking seconds apart. It's constantly up and down.

others are wrong. it shouldn’t be leaking.

i’ve never seen an anti siphon hole drilled on the side of a durso before. the hole is supposed to be in the top cap.

Ok, I'm confused. You are calling this the return into the DT. The pictures you are showing are of your Durso drain which should take water from the DT into the sump.

Unfortunately, this is a standard Marineland Durso setup. And it is awful. I ended stuffing sponge material into the side holes and drilled new holes on top to make it work correctly.

he’s having issues with both.
Ah, got it.

Now I remember the other problem with the Marineland setup. The return pipe has a drill hole, also. I ended up using 2 part epoxy putty for reef rock to fill it and kept my nozzles close to the top of the water.

Thinking of my old 120g Marineland system is bringing back bad memories. ;Meh

haha that’s bad. even with the anti siphon hole for the return there shouldn’t be a “leak”.

A drain with no air in it flows more than one with air in it.

Your drain sucks air in the hole in the side and slows down. The water level rises and covers the hole. Once the air comes out the bottom it speeds up and drains down until it can suck air in the hole again. Make a hole in the top of the drain and stick a piece of airline tubing in it and it will stop. The side hole will always be covered while air is in your drains so it wont matter.

not exactly your same setup but this is with the anti siphon drilled in the top and a silencer tube sticking out.
