There is a miscommunication, the drain does have an air tube in it, I don't know why the holes are drilled in the side, the issue I'm talking about is the return line passing water out because there was a hole drilled or cut in the PVC before water comes out of the locline. It's still expelling water. The hole is cut in the 90 of the return

I wish I could upload a video haha

The easiest way to explain it, there is a drilled holes ( I felt) right at the bend in the 90 before the locline

I know exactly what you are talking about. If you have a piece of sponge filter you can wedge it between the hole and the plastic overflow to quiet it down for now. I did that until I could get some epoxy to seal it up.

Okay, so the majority is in agreement that it isn't needed and is just causing excess noise?

I actually have some of this left from doing the rock structure, I just wanted to make sure i would be fine if i sealed it or if it is supposed to be there. Should i drill a hole in the top of it just like in the drain?

:)

I have the marine land 90gal with with the same corner-flo setup. The noise from the water shooting out of the hole is annoying. I just got a small sponge filter and wedged it between the hole and the overflow. It cut down the noise a lot. Also the up and down effect of the waterline in the overflow where you get that sucking sound from the hole on the side of the drain will slow down over time to the point where the hole is submerged constantly.

Yup, the hole in the return pipe is not needed. Just keep your return nozzles a high in the water and pointed slightly down. If you have a check valve in your system you don't even have to worry about that.

Do NOT drill a hole in the top unless you want to create a fountain. You only need those in the drain line.

What's wrong with a fountain?! ;) It would be a cool water feature;) haha but sounds good. I'm get it taken care of, I'm glad the noise will be gone for the most part.

I have the same setup and that sponge idea is a good one. I currently have a zip tie over the anti-siphon hole on the returns. Not to block it completely but it slows it down and spreads the flow out to quiet the noise but I like that sponge idea more. My nozzles should be high enough to prevent too much back flow to the sump so I could probably plug the hole but with my zip ties the noise doesn't bother me where we have it set up currently and I like the added protection of the siphon break. But I do want to try the sponge when I get home.

I do think slowing the return pump down a bit also helped with that setup and I tinkered with some airline tubing on the top of the drain lines to kind of fine tune. I think I get enough flow through the sump with the return turned down and I have 4 powerheads in the tank so get a lot of flow, just not a ton from the returns.

Spot on here @Brew12 it’s increidvly annoying and functionally inept most of the time. I leave mine open and it has become white noise but I keep toying with they idea of blocking it. Might try the sponge piece tonight.

At one time I had actually found the 90 degree threaded reducing elbow not drilled for sale at a plumbing store but idiotically did not purchase it.

I had the exact same problem with mine. Here is is how I fixed it. I got a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled the little tub out of the top, Then put a loose tie wrap around the little hole to redirect the water down the side of the pipe, but sill fictions as it should. It's a lot better now.
