Acrylic absorbs water over time and will deflect with it's current setup running at 8" now if your power fails and the sump fills 13" or so without a brace the sump will fail also... A brace could have been avoided by using 1/2" thick material but it gets real pricey real quick... I have almost 20yrs of acrylic fabrication under my belt so trust me when I say it will bow.. 1/2" would bow also but a minute amount is aceptable for a sump but not displays IMO. when you get up 1/4" deflection you start stressing the seams and crazing occurs then one day pop!!!! You got a flood....![]()
yea what he said. I would say troylee has quite a bit more acrylic experience than I . Skimmers is really my forte'. might have to build another one becuase I have some 8 inch acrylic just laying around I need to use.
