monkiboy's 265g build thread

got her done, mostly. water is moving! still need to tune the bean and need more water for the skimmer but won't be running the skimmer for the first week at least anyway so i'm feeling pretty good. will adjust salinity tomorrow and tune bean for silence. then add sand. enjoy!

probably going to get another 20lbs of hawaiian black. then gotta mix or not or get in places that i want.

then i have some extra long flat pieces of cermeco via rock that look incredible that i might use horizontally to bridge the main structures or place at a slant against one of the main structures. not sure yet. just excited to get the tank clear and cycling. it's honestly just so awesome to look at the clean plumbing and watch it work without fail and no issues with start up after fail or power down. it's just fun and nothing is in the tank yet!

just testing out one of the wp40s from the GB that ERC put together. i don't think i'll be using any of the jebaos on this tank as i really don't like the cord being seen but that didn't stop me from playing around with my new toy, haha!

oh, and i took a suggestion from a fellow reefer and moved one structure over and i do like it better that way. i mixed the sand a bit and i think it looks very different and unique the black and fiji pink and am really glad i went with a sand bed. i'm horrible at maintaining a sand bed so i will make sure that i get a lot of the right CUC members to do that job for me ;)

Nice detailed build, thanks for sharing and keep the updates coming!
will do -thanks for checking in!

Man, you are one heck of a builder.....I didn't miss a single post of your thread. Very awesome man.
my dad and i tackled a lot of this together and a lot of thanks goes to him. i'm the guts and passion and he's the talent ;)

i have no idea how if not in the carib-sea "live" sand or maybe some freak water splash accident while working on the other sump of the existing clown/nem tank and it landed in the 265?!

new toy came in the mail today - mp60

definitely underestimated how large the whole thing is together, haha. thankfully only half of it goes inside the tank! and boy oh boy do you feel some flow! best thing is that it's actually quieter than my mp40 which now has me investigating what's going on with my mp40, haha. even at full bore, just a slight hum. i'm really impressed as i thought it would louder.

anywho, nothing much else to report. still cycling away.

amazing crazy!!!!! im about to start putting together my 300 hello inspiration could you pm me where you got your custom rock?!
it's vida rock from cerameco. there are OTS pieces you can use at aqua-tecture.com or you can have custom made pieces through cerameco but not nearly as easy a process.

so tested again tonight to confirm the results from the last few weeks

0ppm ammonia
0ppm nitrites
2ppm nitrates

i've been tossing food and using the ammonium chloride that dr. tim offers once a day or every other day into the tank.

i had an initial spike of ammonia at .5ppm for about nine days. on the seventh day, and for only one day nitrites might have hit .25ppm but it was hard to tell. ever since for the last couple weeks i've been at 0ppm ammonia and nitrites and nitrates bouncing around 0-4ppm.

so i'm through the first part of the cycle and had only minimal diatoms which i was surprised by. most times with new tanks i see it everywhere and it gets heavy but the bloom was small and this time was only in patches and gone in three days almost completely. i have some remaining spots on my front glass that i never cleaned but otherwise the tank is looking remarkably clean.

going to wait a while for my first fishes but am going to call in my order for the first group of tangs or wrasses (don't know which i want to start with yet) (if you have an opinion about this, let me know) so they can go through prophylactic treatment over the next month or so and i'll have some life to add down the road.

right now, my fish list looks like below:

TANGS:

yellow belly regal blue
Paracanthurus hepatus

yellow (a few)
Zebrasoma flavescens

achilles
Acanthurus achilles

black
Zebrasoma rostratum

purple
Zebrasoma xanthurum

yellow-eye kole
Ctenochaetus strigosus

chevron
Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis

blonde naso
Naso elegans

ANTHIAS:

pictilis
Pseudanthias pictilis

blotched
Holanthias borbonius

WRASSES:
Lineatus Fairy
Cirrhilabrus lineatus

Scott's Fairy
Cirrhilabrus Scottorum

blue star leopard
Macropharyngodon bipartitus
