Montipora Cap, to chop or not?

The cap doesn't grow on the shell causing it not to be able to open or close? Cut it, I think regular trimming will have to be done eventually anyway.

No I haven't seen evidence of the cap growing on the shell yet.

I think I'm gonna have to break out the shears tonight!

I would cut it. Like said above sps eventually need trimming anyways,they are so fragile and get in the way. You end up breaking it with your hand by accident...well I do,lol.

I hear ya, I broke an awesome Acro last night and didn't even realize I did it till I saw it hanging there.

Uh you could chop.... Or, you could do what I have done in the past:

Step 1) Break huge piece from Monti Cap.
Step 2) Throw in trash.
Step 3) Repeat weekly.

Seriously, I would not be concerned about breaking a boundary area around that clam as the caps I used to keep would grow 10-20 in^2 a week. I was so annoyed that after my last move I ripped it all out and nuked the existing portions on the rock with kalk.

Caps are worse than caulerpa in my eyes! He he

Ok I went ahead and broke the piece off tonight and let there be light! The cap is so big now I added a second clam to it. You can see the bleaching in the cap and that isn't a look that I like.
