Montipora eating Nudibranch Needing some suggestions.

I just recently discovered I have Monti eating Nudi's. They first started on a few different Monti caps I have. Now I noticed them on one of my Palawanensis Montis. My question is do Monti eating Nudi's only have a taste for plating Monti's or will they also go after encrusting Monti's as well.

Currently I'm pulling all Monti's out of the tank as we speak and moving over to QT after a dip in either CoralRX Pro or Revive. I'll continue the dips every 3-4 days for 3-4 weeks. I have a 6 line wrasse which I need to move from another tank I figured I would put in with all the monti's. I've heard that they eat the nudi's. Just wondering if I could leave any encrusting monti's or if I should QT them as well?

From my experience, they eat both plating, digitata, setosa, and encrusting types of montipora. Generally, the more valuable the monti is, the better it tastes.

If it is a Monti eating Nudi it will eat any monti. At least all the ones i have encountered.

I can't speak to that with authority, but I wound up dipping all my stylocoeniella and porites to be on the safe side.

I have to kick my self because of this. I picked up two Monti's a few weeks back from a well know source that had a sale ...They'll remain anonymous. I did dip and scrub the bottoms of the Monti's and inspected them thoroughly. Unfortunately at the time all my Coral only QT tanks were occupied by fish being treated. So in one of the display tanks they went. Now I've learned my lesson you cant go with out treating/dipping corals several times and without using a separate QT tank to monitor them.

Ya they are a huge pain to get rid of them.

The Halichoeres chloropterus is reef safe but like most wrasse it is keep with caution. They are less aggressive then the Halichoeres melanurus wrasse but work as well. If you have a bare bottom you can add a small shallow container with sand in it for them to hide at night. You can hide it in a spot that it is hard to see so it is not such an eye sore.

I myself would do a two fold approach. I would add the wrasse to my DT and I would take out all monti and dip. Flip the corals over and look for eggs as most dips don't get the eggs. I like to poke tweezers into crevices and grind a little just in case.

All dipped in an CoralRXpro bath for 10min then a 5 min bath in Revive. Moved to QT with 6 line wrasse. Couple palawanensis,ATL Appleberry,ASD RB, JFox slow burn,WWC grafted, vivid purple cap,Starburst, tequila sunrise, seasons greetings, Tyree Aequitubeculata, tropic thunder. All had bite marks,nudi's and eggs present. Most of the encrusting mont'a looked good. Pulled and dipped the Porites and Stylo's except the burning banana since its all encrusted on the rock.
