Is this monti dying ?

My tank is 2 months old with good water quality and para are at good levels and i am dosing cal and mag

Within 2 days the corals skin started to fade

Pic and post params. Also need to know more about your lighting and coral placement( depth).
2 months is also still a very immature tank. Not impossible to successfully keep some hard coral, but for most inexperienced or new reefers too soon.

Ok so the para are as following

0 ammonia, 0 nitrite , 2 nitrate , ph at 8.2 , lights are LED blue and white that i leave ok for about 11 hours , tank has 1 tomato clown 2 hermets , 3 turbo snails, 1 spotted goby , 1 cleaner shrimp

I do dose calcium and magnesium but honestly i have not checked it ever ,

The coral was doing fine i have a strong flow directed almost at it .. should i remove it ? What should i do?

Oh and my torch coral is doing really well opening and color is great so its just the Monti

I'm sorry if I'm blunt but , why would you dose calc and mag in a new tank that your not even testing for which as far as you've said has almost no corals in it ... firstly a normal 10% WC every week would replenish any lost calc or mag I would think !

I agree and thats what i thought until the LFS told me i should dose the tank twice a week so i did ... but can you tell whats going on with the coral ?

Alk will be what you will have to watch but with your coral load, as said above WCs should replenish anything used up.

At a guess ..I'd say maybe too much light and or too much flow .. but I would certainly recommend you start testing for calc and mag at least once a week if you want too keep corals . And I wouldn't dose call or mag till I know how much is being used in my system .. I think you might benifit more by cross checking any info your lFS gives you with someone on here first .. that would be my advice

Do not dose if you can not test. You wont need to dose anything for a while. Normal water change will replenish everything you need. I always did Water changes every 2 weeks now I do them once a month and have not noticed any difference. I do have to dose a LOT of ALK and Calcium, and magnesium gets replenished during the WC. I haven't tested magnesium for a while now. take it slow and your LFS sucks for telling you that.

Will do guys .. but i still need to know whats going on with the coral u can see the bottom part of the coral has the skeleton showing and skin coming off... what do u think it is and what should i do now ?

I'd put it in a place with less light and less flow .. where the skeleton is showing will grow back again ..its probably stn or rtn

I read that you have strong flow directed almost at it. I would move it to an area where there is indirect flow first and foremost. Then I would try decreasing the length of time the lights are on or move it to a shaded area. Also, once you make any adjustments, it can take a few days/weeks before you will see an improvement so don't keep changing something everyday because it still doesn't look good because tissue wI'll have to grow back.

It does look more like a mycedium /chalice and will need to be fed. You should be able to see its "tentacles" at night.

I think ur right its not a Montipora !! Although the LFS said it was and now i think i need to change the LFs i got to !!!

Can someone actually tell of its a Monti or amycedium ?

Did they sell it to you as a montipora capricornis? It definitely not. I see a bunch of what I call mouths that will extend tentacles for food.

I do dose calcium and magnesium but honestly i have not checked it ever ,

This is how I have problems in my tank.. blind dosing.

Unless something is consuming it/growing it shouldn't change much. You might have an over abundance.

Agree with the above responses. I would recommend that you invest in quality test kits; Hanna, Salifert, Red Sea, to name a few. You can research on this site to see what others are using. Test alk at least every other day (I test daily), Calcium once a week and mag once a month. Personally, I would stop taking the advice of someone who told me to dose mag twice a week or anyone who told me to dose without testing first. Know your nitrate and potassium numbers as well. NEVER add anything to your tank without testing first and know the correct calculations of any additions. You can use the BRS calculator on their website to help with some calculations.
Next; read, read and read some more!!!!! Reef2Reef is a wonderful resource for information.
Without this basic practice you are doomed for failure. Not trying to be mean, just want you to be successful.:)
Alkalinity swings, too much light, water flow (too much, not enough), pest (did you dip the coral first?) could all be possible reason for your mystery corals tissue necrosis.
FYI, I know just enough to be dangerous.:D

This is my chalice .. in a low light low flow .. with as described above the mouths or tentacles
