I have a one drain one return system and my one drain is a Durso standpipe, should I use a gate valve or no valve becuase it’s just one.

If you only have 1 drain, then you should not use a gate valve. Using a valve will greatly increase the chance of a flood.

Yup, you don’t want a restriction on a single drain setup.

Remember tough, Durso's work best with low flow.

I was considering, but my system is 110+ gallons, and I don’t want too much drainage and not enouph return, as my pump is an old one becuase I got all my stuff used from someone who didn’t want it anymore

Then you would put a valve on the full siphon, slowing flow until a trickle or small stream flows down the other(emergency) drain. It will be silent. Or you can always upgrade to a big DC controllable pump and tune it until drains are silent and unrestricted

You always want more drain than return.
It's not like you have to match one with the other.

Using both as a drain, then you can use a valve and that will help make the drain much quieter.
Single durso's are notorious for being noisey.

I was just looking and my pump is 900gph as per the 3420LPH sticker on it, and the manufacturer says the durso is 660gph

The pump is rated for 900gph, but you need to take into consideration there will be what's called head loss.
Meaning the pump will lose some power pushing water up hill.
So durso will probably handle the pump power.
I would skip the durso setup and go for a herbie drain setup.

Yes.
I am assuming you have 2 bulkheads in the bottom of the tank.

also, i have a bucket of instant ocean buts its all kinda hard and like shaved ice is this safe too use?

Then pump the return pump up over the top of the tank.

i have a locline with 2 "arms" and 2 regular nozzles, i forgot the name but its like a cone

I would use the 1" as the main drain and the 3/4" as the emergency drain.
Not sure what the pump is or how much head loss you are looking at but the return line may need a valve on it.

I would probably pass on using salt that's turned hard.
I know this has been a subject in other threads and some would use it, but not me.
