Most expensive fish

Peppermint Angel (Paracentropyge boylei) around $20K

most expensive saltwater fish i know of is the peppermint angel (C. boylei) and the masked angelfish (G. personatus), both goes for around 20k and both are deepwater
in terms of freshwater...well lets just say there are some crazy people out there
ive heard of some kois going in the 6 digits...

A lot of these comments are really speculative. A peppermint (C. boylei) hasnt been collected in a long time, and likely wont be collected again soon, so the price, while very very high, is really unknown. And the Perosnatus are not collected regularly enough to determine a price either. SUre we know what the last batch went for, but what the next ones, if collected will go for is unknown for sure. There just isnt enough commerce in them to know if it will be the same, more, or a LOT more.

actually 6 peppermints have been collected recently (past year) which is how i know they sold for 20k each and these were presold before collection...
personatus on the otherhand i dont know off hand but do know they are rarely collected mainly because they are deepwater, even though they are found in shallower protected areas
the last time i looked into these, both personatus and boylei sold for 10k each which is why im assuming that personatus would sell for 20k today
that was about 10 years ago though
this was also when most fish that sell for 3k now used to sell for 1k like clarions and conspics

an article in the new coral mag. had a guy that was expecting 2 peppermints for a downstairs tank in his system.

Yeah, theres a lot of chatter on the legitimacy of this claim. There was a collection trip for them that was proposed, and slightly planned, but never panned out. So, his claim of having 2 "on order" would seem inaccurate. These are not fish that can just be collected by someone who wants some money. They are at enormous depths out in the middle of nowhere. The trip must be made to collect them specifically.

Who collected them? Where were they sold? I would like to know where you got this information. There hasnt been any collection in MANY years. Please enlighten. I dont think your "facts" are correct.
