So my new Custom Aquariums tank is scheduled for delivery Wednesday next week.

It is 72 x 28 x 30 and weighs about 540 lbs.

I see a lot of various suction cup handles on Amazon, some cheap - 20 bucks for 2 sets of "double" suction cup handles rated up to 200 lbs and some very expensive single cups rated at a little under 200 lbs.

How many suction cups and at what rating should I go with? I think 4 of us strong guys can manage the tank, but need to know what kind of cups to use and how many.

Any advice anyone can give would be appreciated.

You use cups you're 10x more likely to put a nice BIG scratch on your tank bc theres is little to no coordination moving the whole piece......youll have 4 guys lifting in 4 different angles and the tank will be out of control.

How do you get CONTROL?
Absolutely, without a doubt... S T R A P S

No other way to do it, with such control. All the professionals use them

Buy them at Home Depot or Lowes:

I can't recommend any suction cups, but I would just have it delivered to my house... That way you wont have to worry about it at all :-)

I rented some suction cups ( equipment rental store) when I moved my first 240.
Worked fine.
The second 240 was easily moved with 6 guys.
I have heard that the strap method is pretty easy.

I rented a couple of suction cups from sunbelt rental. I moved a red sea 750, it took 4 of us.

I use suction cups every day for Corian solid surface and stone surfaces. If you pre plan your move with your help everything will go smoothly. Talk about the proper way to lift (with your legs not your back) and walk through the whole move together step by step. It is easier to work as a team when everyone is on the same page. Make sure you give people the chance to give input cause you might miss something they might see as an obstacle to success. You will do fine!

No way id use suction cups. I habe a 135 thats 40 years old thats my display tank. And while gallons wise is small then your tank it still uses 1.2 thick glass compared to 3.8 on modern 125-180s. Tank weighs at least 400 lbs its nearly double the weight if a normal 125. I was able to move it myself lol up 3 flights of stairs by just using my brain... lay it on the stairs... push it up by sliding it lift it up and twist it and lay it down ect.. but maybe im hercules.

If this were my tank id ask for 3 or 4 guys to help me move the tank and id have them carry it on the corners.. 540 lbs with 3 or 4 guys is easy..

Im paranoid and id be worried sbout suction cups letting go. whatever.. ive seen videos of ppl using suction cups though for 250+ gallon tanks.

not sure I understand you units of measurement.

Really, I’m not understanding the advice to NOT use suction cups.

My tank builder RECOMMENDS and rents out suction cups.

Plus, I’ve never heard of someone’s suction cups failing while moving a tank. Maybe someone has had that happen??

I lift full slabs with suction cups made for my forklift. The slabs weigh over 1000lbs. Proper suction cups and the knowledge of how to use them delivers counters worth more than the tanks mentioned here several times a week....just saying we don't take a chance damaging a kitchen worth more than your tank. By the way I manufactured tanks 16' long by 3' wide by 4' tall out of 2" using .... you guessed it suction cups for assembly and delivery. About 2500LBS finished....yeah cups work. The straps cut into your wrist at that weight (540lbs) and you will bruise for sure.

My 360g was moved from my home recently with two guys using the straps. They moved it like it was nothing. I was shocked but realized - THEY WORK !!

Thanks for the info on the cups.

Could you recommend any on Amazon? My tank is 6 ft x 28 inches. Weighs 540 lb.

4 people, I would rent 6. The ones that are $20, I wouldn't trust. Good suction cups aren't cheap
