Hi everyone,
I started my first tank less than a year ago. I am really enjoying the hobby. However, I'll have a forced restart soon.

At the moment, I live in Los Angeles. This August, I'm packing up everything and moving to New Zealand. Since we can't take our tank, we'll have to sell it all and start again there. I'm excited to start a new tank there and apply everything I didn't know the first time around. However, I'll be sad to see my first tank go.

I joined this forum to figure out how to best sell my tank, but I already know that that's not all I'll be here for. So much valuable information throughout the forum that will help me with the hobby in the future.

I'm a scuba diver, marine biology & environmental conservation student, a wife, and a dog mom. I am a little too passionate about the ocean and annoy my friends with all the latest information on avoiding single-use plastic, humans messing up the environment, and all that fun stuff.

Talk to you all soon!

We've been there on vacation before to check the place out and it's beautiful. So far I've only been to the North Island and the South Island is supposed to be the more beautiful of the two. If that's the case, I can only imagine how mind-blowing the South Island must be, because the North Island is one of the most interesting and beautiful places I've been to. Definitely worth a visit. We did a trip in a camper van and then stayed a few days in Auckland. I can definitely recommend that.

Hate that you have to sell, but quite understandable is your situation. I've only been scuba diving there once off New Zealand’s Tutukaka Coast, and it is awesome with plenty of wreck diving, drop-offs and sub-tropical reefs in pristine, clear waters. Enjoy!

We were thinking about taking it but it just doesn't make sense. We would need to put a converter on the APEX (fine...) but then we'd be limited to US electronics for the rest of the APEX's lifespan. If a skimmer breaks or a pump, we can't just go to the LFS, we'd need to get one from the US and pay for (ridiculously high) shipping to NZ.
Taking the fish isn't even an option. NZ requires quarantine even for fish. So I'll have to let everything go. Figuring out how much to sell it for at the moment and how to best do that. The only thing that's decided so far is that my two clowns and their anemone won't get separated ;)

I heard amazing things about Tutukaka and can't wait to go diving there myself. I love that there is such a large marine reserve right around the corner from where I'll live.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Have a safe move and keep us posted on your build with lots of photos! :)

Hello bekate, Living in New Zealand, How exotic ! I hope your move & stay all goes well for you. I also tick my friends off about too much plastic ! LOL. Again Good luck with Your move & please tell us more about Your new Home & tank !
As for Your original query, I'd think a local reef club would be a good place to advertise your tank related stuff.

Thank you!!

Every time I go scuba diving my drysuit pockets turn into trashcans for all the plastic I find everywhere. And it's not even bad here in California. It's been pretty eyeopening. And once you start paying attention to too much plastic you can't unsee it and realize it is EVERYWHERE.

I'm jealous. I have a friend on Facebook who works on communication towers or something in New Zealand and always posts pictures of his 'office for the day'. Such a beautiful place (I also love the Lord of the Rings films that were made there).
When we were there on vacation we visited Hobbiton. I honestly expected to hate it but it was very well done and interesting. They told us a bunch of fun stories from when the movies were filmed and why things were done certain ways.

The landscapes there are breathtaking. One night we got lost and it was so late that we couldn't find a campground anymore, so we just parked the camper van on a small outlook parking lot at the side of the road. It was pitch black when we got there but we woke up to amazing views the next morning. I can't wait to call that beauty my home even though I will be sad to leave California behind.

Indeed on the cleanup. I strap on my Meg 15 CCR, tote mesh trash bags an go 'to town' for ~8 hours at a time. We've gotta take better care of ecosystem!
