Anyone have troubles with MP10 falling off the outside of their tanks? I never had troubles before I upgraded the controller to the QD controller. It on a NUVO 40. So I doubt the glass is too thick.... I never had trouble before. Why would the QD cause this? It's almost like it causes the magnets to reverse on polarity between the wet side and the dry.

Any chance you have the wrong spacer on the dry side since you just did an upgrade?

Do you dose? I find that I have to clean my wetsides every 2 weeks. I soak them in vinegar for a few hours. The reason I need to do that is because I get calcium precipitate inside on the magnet surface. If I wait 3 weeks or so, the calcium binds up the wet side, and it ends up falling off inside the tank. I actually had to buy a third wet side (I use an MP10 on both sides of my tank). Every two weeks, I replace one wet side with a clean one, then soak the dirty one in vinegar overnight, then replace the second wet side the following day. I then clean the second dirty wet side so it is ready in 2 weeks to start the cycle again. It’s really pretty easy when you do it that way. [emoji3]

Funny you mentioned this. I've just recently replaced all the old wetside MP40's with the QD wetsides. I still have the "old" MP40 drysides. I've never used those wire/dryside stick-on holders, and never needed them. With the new wetsides, I now have to "hang" the drysides because they started falling off. I'm guessing they are using magnets that are not as "strong" as the old wetsides....but just a guess.

Like to hear other opinions.

Be careful when you remove the blade assembly. If you have calcium build-up on the white axle, it can be a little difficult to remove. If you can’t remove it easily, don’t force it....the axle is very delicate. Soak the entire assembly in vinegar first for a few hours or so, then try to take it apart.

Will do! Thanks!

I would highly recommend not cleaning the magnet portion with vinegar (acetic acid). The reason....and the reason I needed to change out all my wetsides...is that acetic acid permeates the plastic around the magnet and now causes it to swell. Please consider diluted muriatic acid or citric acid. You can find citric acid on ebay or amazon...and dilute 3/4 cups to one gallon of water. Both these acids do NOT permeate the plastic around the magnets.

Yikes!!! Really?!?! I never heard that. I thought vinegar was a miracle cleaner!!!

OK, you guys will laugh, but I use double sided sticky tape under my MP10 dry side to keep it in place. I do the same for my MP40s, but for them it's just an anti-vibration safeguard (the tape won't actually hold them for long if the wet side falls off.)

I went ahead and ordered a wetside QD just in case my old one is just worn out.... And to rotate clean.

Assuming you are using the proper spacer (including no spacer if appropriate), then it's probably a worn wetside. The QD driver accomplishes it's quieter operation by driving the motor differently. Through I have not personally experienced decoupling as a direct consequence of upgrading the drive, I suppose it's possible. BTW you should always be supporting the dryside.

The Chemical Compatibility Database at Cole Parmer will give you a chemical or material lookup for compatibility. We want A+ ratings to avoid degradation.

IMO (based on their scores) vinegar and citric acid are about equally good, but it's worth noting the differences. :)

What material did you choose for the wetside?
