MP40 - Buy 2 of them?

99% of the noise issues are user error caused by a misalignment of the wet and dry sides. There is a slight motor whine when the pumps are pulsed, but run on a constant speed, the noise is likewise constant and is not noticeable.

If the pump is an older model and is not well taken care of (proper alignment, the wet side regularly cleaned [especially if coralline is allowed to encrust it], etc), then the bearings will have unnecessary force applied to them and will fail, causing the infamous 'grinding' noise as the motor spins.


After using Tunze 6095 that I could aim exactly where I want them, I find far better flow in using the Mp40 placed exactly centered on the side panels of the tank.

They do not go over 28 watts drawn unless severely misaligned, which will kill the pump in short order. When run on anything other than constant mode, the total average power draw is much less. Lagoonal mode at 100% is 16.48 watts consumed average over 24 hours, reef crest is 12.61 watts.


The warranty is up to the distributor, not the manufacturer, as is pretty standard on things of this nature.


Thank you for the corrections. I'm not very familiar with the settings on the WP series, is W1 the wave mode?

And as far as I'm aware, 12v is the minimum voltage that you can drop it to.


I used the newer style 6095 that come standard with the 'wide flow' adapter, and the flow was nothing like the flow of the MP40. If I placed the pumps in the same positions as the Vortechs are in facing directly ahead, there would be high-flow directly ahead, and a foot or so away the flow would be only a foot or so wide. The MP40 flow pattern is a very wide ellipse, around 18" wide a few inches from the wet side, and around 8" tall. Perfect for what I need it to be, since I have a shallow tank.

Mp40s are loud compared to almost every other pump and especially after the bearings start to wear... I have two on my tank now and have owned several others as well as mp10's..

Thanks jedimasterben I did not know the minimum. That will help if I lowered the speed more and if not working because the volts were too low. Out if box the it is 20-40 watts at 3400gph I think.

I have a friend that owns a LFS he is now testing the wp's for selling. So he has just both. He did mention one advantage he noticed with the vortech. It seems if being mounted directly to the glass causes a better water movement closer to sand bed under to unit.

I agree with everything everybody has said about the MP40 being better than the WP40... but it just isn't worth an extra $350 each... just no way. But spend your money, it's perfectly OK with me.

I'm with the others. Buy what you want and forget the nonsense of the jeabo. If you wanted one I'm sure you would have asked about one.

As far as the price, if new, yes, good deal! I have 2 myself and am looking to pick up some new 10s for back also. I would pull the plug on that price imho..

Comparing the Jebao WP series to the Mp's is like apples and oranges. The MP is clearly different and unique with its external motor design. Is it better? I do not believe so based on the many friends I have with them and the complaints they have had over the years. Will it last longer? Time will tell as the Jebao is a new product but already has a large customer base.

A more fair comparison is the Jebao to Tunze or the Koralia Magnum 12v series with their controllers. In these comparisons I do believe the Jebao WP's are a more cost effective option and again time will tell on the lifespan. I am completely happy with my WP's so far as are most others I have heard or seen.

Kind of a tough ask seeing as how the WP40 has only been available for 9-10 months. But mine (9 months old) has worked 100% perfect and so have the 4 WP25's I got a few months later.

190% agree. I just picked one (WP40) up at our local frag swap here in GORGEOUS tropical Cleveland .. I can't justify paying the extra money, well at least THAT much for the MP40. I have NO PROBLEM paying more for better quality, but there has to be a cut off point... well at least for me. And Ron ... now with the same lights as you and now the same pump ... we are heading towards identical tanks ... lol ... :xd: Here's to hoping mine has the same success as yours!

I don't know how the undertow and overtow of the WP40 compares to the MP40, but that's one of the biggest reasons I like my Vortechs. The flow in the Vortechs are incredible. It moves your sand bed and being able to randomly control flow throughout the day is a great too. I also love the fact that you don't have a cord in the water with the Vortech. If you have the money, get the Vortech. If you're tight on cash, get that WP40.

I pulled the trigger on 2 MP40's. I'll hook them up in a few hours. Any tips or suggestions to make it an easy process?

Pretty much take your time, listen to it in both Constant mode and Pulse mode when you set them up, make sure you set the pin spacers accurately for your wall thickness, and lastly check to make sure your rubber gasket for the dry side is sitting flush all around and not riding on the lip at all. May have to give it a very slight push on the dry side to make sure of this last part.

You should be good. Just take your time though.

All setup, PIN setting is correct for my glass thickness, rubber spacer is flush, wires are well hidden.

I have them on reef crest ATM.

What modes do people with MP40 suggest? I like the visual look of the back and forth flow, im guess thats long pulse?

Reefcrest is the mode you will see most people using. I did not sync mine.

I have a wxm so I run most of the modes through a 24 hour period. But when injustice running the pumps by themselves I ran nutrient most of the time. But it depends on what you have in your tank.

They also have a new product either coming out or already out that plugs into your pc via USB, then you can program you powerheads to switch modes and intensities however you want wirelessly from your pc. I believe it only works for the radions right now but will have mp40 capabilities soon.

Yes, the eco reeflink. And yes, it only works with the rations right now. I think they said the beginning of the year for the vortechs.

So there are a lot of things I really like about these pumps, I am glad I bought them. You can tell just by holding them how high quality they are.

My only complain so far is having to manually enable night mode, is there anything I can do to automate this process? A controller maybe?

Oh, also, should I have them sync together as a master and a slave? I have not done that yet, I think it would perform better if I did that. Suggestions?
