msm in a reef

an important thing to think about and the rule i abide to is, if i don't test for it i don't dose it.

the problem here is you cant test for millions of things in your box of water...
unless it is just a box of water no sand no rock no fish no coral.... once you add one you are adding 100's of things you cant test for, from all around the world. keep in mind 1 drop of seawater has over 10million viruses.... not to mention the 1000's and 1000's of other things you cant test for......

FWIW, I don't think anyone dosing organic carbon (vinegar, vodka, etc.) measures it because the goal isn't maintenance of a particular level, but to drive a process. The same could be said for adding an organosulfur compound. :)

You have made valid points fellas. But all that can be replenished with water changes. I was talking about the big 3 calcium magnesium alkalinity

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Water changes do not contain organic carbon or MSM, which is what the thread is about.
