this guy is ANGRY ! i don’t know what is going on no parameters have changed. he’s been like this for the past couple days mouth puffed up and small. i thought it was because he didn’t like the flat plug he was on so i tried blowing at his foot with a baster and nothing happened. this was 3 days ago and now he’s been like this ever since. i noticed his mesenterial filaments are coming out the foot(in pic) and sometimes through the mouth. today i moved him into a container and blocked the light with a rock. anything else i can do?? can’t risk losing him!! heres a before and after ////:

Any new additives in use? I have about 30 rics that went from years of fluffy gorgeousness to withered blobs because I used Vibrant to treat some algae. They are not dead but I am not sure they are going to recover either.

Looks to be bleached, should move it into a darker section of the tank like you said you did and see if it comes back. Being a mushroom it has a good chance to comeback. If you have seen it spitting up brown stuff(zooxanthellae) recently that would all but confirm it. It wouldn't hurt to post your parameters too.

Like mentioned above mushrooms are very resilient. I’m to the point of multiplication that I wish I never added any. Especially Ricordias, they have a nasty sting.

nope, no additives /:

yes has been expelling zooxanthellae recently /: i wen’t ahead and dimmed the light cycle by 40% although they’re only 32 watts i did raise them up a bit recently so maybe that’s it. i dont want to keep touching him and moving him anymore, should be fine with the rock above and light dimming correct?

parameters

salt 1.026
nitrates 5-10ppm
phos .17
calcium 435
kh 10

Your parameters are fine imo but you can dip in an iodine solution and put in a darker area of the tank... iodine dipping will prevent bacterial infections

Could you post a picture, it sounds like it should be fine as long as its still getting some light. If you could also slowly lowerly your alk, i would, while within range, 10 is rather high for most. If you raised the lights recently and this happened that is your cause and why you saw it spitting up zooxanthellae. If you want to raise the lights you have to do it slowly overtime.

yeah raised them 15% every week for a while but maybe it doesn’t like the 100% range of the spectrum. i removed the rock because i thought it may be blocking a little too much light and placed a plastic tray above for less flow. should i put the rock back?

really trying to prevent stressing it out even more but all i have is revive dip at the moment. should i try that maybe in a couple days?

Iodine wouldn’t stress it out enough to kill it, if by chance it got a bacterial infection it would be beyond stressed... wait a couple days and try iodine... revive is anti parasitic but not anti bacterial just my 2 cents may very well not need to be dipped but soft coral usually responds to iodine pretty well

I would remove it from the plastic, it still needs some flow, place it by a rock on the sand bed with an overhang(so it still gets some light) in a low flow section and let it recover. Place half of it basically sticking out in the light the other half slightly shaded, and it will move back out fully into the light as it gains its zooxanthellae back and requires more light again.
It just needs to adjust to the light since you raised it and giving it minimal light right now is best.

here’s an update. could only find this shelf piece to hover over it and i put a piece of plastic with holes for lower flow. how long should i expect for it to bounce back? what should i do if it continues to expel zooxanthellae?

It will take a week or 2 to color back up, could be more depending on stress. I have the exact same mushroom I got as a freebie that was as white as can be and came back doing the method i told you. Now it's on it's own shelf.

he wont stop expelling zooxanthellae /: is this still normal?

No it's a sign of stress, have you changed anything else recently? Did you change your lights back to "normal" settings prior to all this? Other then your alk being really high(which i would try and get down to around 7 or 8) i dont see any issues with your parameters.

i found out my thermometer was off by 6-8 degrees about a week ago, my tank was at 72/73 the whole time after it read 80. so i put a heater and bumped the temp to 76 within 24hrs. i’m working on slowly making it around 73 degrees again hoping it will help but yea i’d say i changed the temp by at least 4 degrees in 24hrs .. maybe that was the ultimate shock.

you think it’d help if i just move him to my other tank?

I doubt it.

Why so low on the temp? You want to be 78-79 degrees. Could be adding to the stress.
