My 33 Long Frag Station Project

I added some Start Smart to the tank last night.

I will add a frag or 2 and some Cheato to the tank and fuge tonight and watch to see how they do before moving all of my frags over.

I want to add a few fish to the tank and the fuge.
I was thinking about a sand shifter gobie in the fuge and a mandarin gobie and a couple of clowns in the tank.
But I am not set on these in any way. So let me here your suggestions.

This stuff actually works. When I moved my tank I put all new sand in, 10lbs of new rock, and 50% new water. Added that stuff and never had a cycle at all. I know 10lbs of rock is not alot but it is when it is only a 28 gallon tank.

I didn't add my live rock yet. Was going to move a few pieces from my existing tank tonight.

If I add clowns, it will be 2, just because.
But I like the tang idea.

I added some live rock and cheato to the fuge and moved a few frags over to see how they do.
Plan on adding fish this weekend.

Steve , really nice setup. Have a question. Your running a skimmer/return/fuge sump. Does the water flowing from the refugium to the return section create any noise issues? i want to do this with my sump build and figured i would ask. looks awesome though. Also , when and if you run a skimmer , how are the micro bubbles with that style sump. i have heard the three bubble baffles work well.

I don't have any noise issues at all. I have a very slow flow through the fuge and the water exits of the glass wall very evenly from end to end. I get not bubbles from that and the bubble walls eliminate any that are in the overflow area. I will be adding the skimmer this weekend in the overflow area. I am very pleased with the functionality of the sump / fuge.

I add 2 True Percs and 2 Fire Gobies today.

While I had them in my acclimation box 1 of the Fire Gobies jumped out. Lucky for me I had the box on the glass support of the lower tank and he jumped into the overflow area.
Because of that I added the egg crate to the frag tank to keep the fish in. :angel:

I took a couple of PIC's. They aren't the greatest, but it will show you what I have done. My new 60mm Macro lens will be here next week, so better PIC's are coming. :bigsmile:

Currently I have a Mag 7 and a Koriala Nano, but I will be adding more flow to the frag tank. The Nano isn't enough.

Need to add an egg crate wall to the overflow. Had one of the clowns in there this morning and the fire gobies are hiding between the egg crate and the glass, so I need some live rock with holes for them to hang out in.

I installed the ATO system & the skimmer today.
The ATO draws water from my 65 gallon RO/DI storage tank in the garage.
The Aqualiter Pump & Pre-Filter are in the garage, just above the storage tank.
The ATO works great !

Just a quick update.....

The ATO is working perfectly :bigsmile:

The skimmer is producing some very nice foam and already has about 1/4" of dark brown crud. :bigsmile:

I will be moving all of my frags to the frag tank this week.

Why the firefish and clowns for a frag tank?

Because corals are filter feeders and the fish waste is part of what they filter as food.
