My AI Prime HD slipped into the tank

My AI Prime HD is mounted on the back of my rimless tank and it is mounted using the AI Gooseneck mount. The mount slipped to the side and dunked the Prime into the DT. When I saw it the LEDs were blinking so I quickly pulled it out of the tank, turned off all power to the light and dried as much of it as I could and then left it angled on a towel for any additional water to drain out.

My question is...have I lost the AI Prime HD light or is there something I can do to save it. Thanks in advance for your help...this is definitely on me I am sure - I don't like to overtighten the screw on the mount since it is pressure on the tank....it has been ok for about a few weeks so far without any movement.

Stick it in a big ziplock baggie with rice for 24 hours. You want to ensure all water and moisture is gone from the light before attempting to power it up again.

Fingers crossed on this one. Salt is conductive, so you may want to open it up to dry as best as you can.

Fill the bag 1/4 the way with rice, and gently set the light in the bad, you dont have to shake it up or anything, and then ziplock it closed and set it somewhere where nobody will touch it

The light is toast. This just happened to me three days ago. I spilled water on mine during a water change and it did the same thing. It started blinking and it disconnected from the app and I never could get it to work after that. I waited one day and it was done. Those lights can’t handle any water on them. My was under warranty so I sent it in 11 bucks to ship it. I just picked up one from my lfs so I could get back in the game because I had a fresh shipment of coral coming in. I don’t know how much it’s goong to cost to fix but I’ll let you know.

I ordered a replacement from BRS and sent a 'support' note to AI to see if I can get the damaged one repaired. Will let you know what happens and how much it is. Thanks again!

you could get some 99% alcohol and put the boards inside then leave it to dry . It's common technique used to get rid of flux residue, so you can clean the salt from it. just make sure dry poperly.

I would get some of the quick drying electric cleaner and spray it everywhere you can. I had a bulkhead leal when I first set up my tank and it got into my controller and I thought it was toast. Sprayed it like crazy with that stuff and let it dry upside down for like 3 days and it worked again when I powered it up. Unfortunately I wasn’t fast enough so some of the metal is a little corroded, but it still works.

Autozone. I use it clean electrical connections on my car. Never had any issue with it.

I have a couple ai hydra 26 primes on the rail system (i dont think it's made by AI) but I would look into it if I were you. Ive been running them for a few months now with no issues other than my tank has a rim and they're designed for rimless. My lfs gave me about a foot of acrylic about 1/2 inch thick to accommodate.

So AI got back to me. They said I had water damage to the light puck and the control board. They offered me a brand new light for 100 bucks and 10 bucks to ship it. I said yes. So i think that is fair. Half price for the light. What are you gonna do. Right. If nothing else I got an extra light I’m sure I’m going to use in some capacity later down the road.

This is a great reason to keep a cover on your tank. I got one of those plexiglass covers because my fish like to jump. Of my hanging lights were to fall, this would catch them.

So a couple of developments for the light. First, I got and RMA and sent it back to AI. They have evaluated - no surprise here - and it is beyond repair. They offered a new (not refurbished) Prime HD at $100 + $12 shipping. Also, I am in the process (on the waiting list) for getting a custom cover for my tank to 'catch' the light before it hits the water if this should ever happen again. I am just glad that there was no further damage like harming the fish or corals in so much as shocking them and harming them. Got to look at this as a great lesson and glass half full. Hope sharing this information/experience helps someone else.
