I believe that some things that people post are assumptions. For example, people state that they are African Zoas because they are called African Blues. In reality they are from the Caribbean, not muddy rivers. The same thing goes for the Japanese Zoas, they are from Indo.
At times the vendors have an upper hand because we sometimes get the same coral in time after time unlike some of the hobbyist that post there experience. I dont mean that in a bad way at all! All I am saying is that a hobbyist may get a certain zoa and it melts in a week. Then they post there experience with the zoa and people instantly think that the creature does not like those conditions. On the other hand a vendor will get the same creature a couple hundred times and can work with the creature to see what really works.
Of course this is my experience with the Caribbean zoas, I have 400 watt metal halides and they love intense light and I put them in flow that would many times kill SPS.
Even though Caribbean zoas are amazing in color many people will not purchase them any longer because they die. Trust me, I thought the same thing until I worked with about 10 colonies over about a two month period. Over that two month period I lost almost all of the colonies before figuring out what works. Now I put them in intense light and intense flow and the colonies do very well and grow faster than most of the zoas that I have.
Again, this is my experience with them and what works for me may not work for you. But, now that I have used this method it works everytime for me.
