This is a sweet tank with really nice colours on the coral. What skimmer are you running? Also, are you dosing any vodka/vinegar or biopellets? Thanks.

Thank you! I'm running an Omega 180. It's way over rated for this tank but I think that's why I'm getting these results. I'm running zeovit and dosing the KZ products... when I remember haha. It would probably look better if i dosed everyday.

Thanks for the reply. Your acro colours look really good for a small system. Hence why I asked about the filtration. It is working out really well. Got a few questions if you dont mind (it will also help other reefers too):

1. Do you run Zeolite, if so how much and what flow is going through the zeo reactor?
2. Which KZ Zeo products do you dose and how much?
3. What is your water change schedule and how much?

You've worked out a very efficient system here...do you plan to replicate this for a larger system? Many thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, sorry I didn't really say much about this set up because it was up and running when I joined this forum. I got this tank a year ago when I moved in to an apartment. I kept most of my equipment from my 180 and used it for this build

Running the vertex calcium reactor, Teco 1/3 hp chiller, and an apex

Underneath I'm running a vertex RX-Z 1.5 with 1 liter of zeolite rocks. I got the pump on the reactor opened all the way so it has full flow going through it.

And as I mentioned I'm running the Omega 180

In the refugium I have about 10lbs of miracle mud along with cheato, random frags, and a Prime as a light

As far as supplementing I use KZ products and dose as directed.... When I remember hahaha

As far as my water change schedule, I change 5 gallons of water when ever I feel like it. I once went a year with out a water change. I do add trace elements and iodine when ever I go long periods with out a water change. I just feel like if my parameters are in order, there is no need for water changes.

My parameters are as followed

dKH 9
CA 424ppm
Mg 1600ppm
No3 0ppm
Po4 .05ppm

And that's all I test for

Cleaned the tank today. Still having GHA issues but not as bad as before. A few weeks ago I was having issues with my alk and ca levels. Turns out I had an explosion in sps growth and I see more coralline in the tank.

Came home today after spending 2.5 weeks in Oregon to find that ALL of my zoas died and there's some weird algae growing in the tank.

Rastas, red hornets, Sunny Ds, strawberry wines, blue tubs, Kilowag, mandarin orange, BBE, fruit loops, bowsers, blowpops, flaming Suns, and sponge bobs gone

The only ones still hanging on are nuclear greens, utter chaos, and fire and ice

Sps doing a k from what I see

This is what I came home to

I checked my parameters and the are as followed

Alk:9
CA: 480
Mg: 1500
No3: undetectable
Po4: 11ppm

Also, one of my mp10s fell of on one side so there wasn't a whole lot of flow in the tank.

So disheartening.

Looks like dinoflagelletes to me.

I am so sorry to see this!
It does look like a dinoflagellate outbreak.
Zoanthids at least in my tank are the first to show signs of the toxicity of the water from them.

Yeah, my zoas started not looking so well the week before I left. I did a 15g water change over 2 days before I left hoping that it would help. Unfortunately my fiancé doesn't know about feeding and all she did was feed the fish and the corals once a week

Well, here is what my tank looks like after recovering from a Dino outbreak. So far I've done about a 75% water change over 2 weeks and I balanced out my alk, ca, and mg.

But even with all this I still have algae issues [emoji53]

I've been dosing Tech M and that seemed to help a little but it's still there! I've been looking in to an ATS. Maybe I'll pull the trigger on one.
Check out my thread about hydrogen peroxide treatment for algae. I spot treated in pretty similar areas to where your experiencing the problem and its been a few months now, and the stuff hasn't come back even a little bit!
