I have some clementines about 9 & 3 of them seem to have like an algae stopping them from opening, im worried that they will die. Any ideas what I can do

I would take the smooth part of a tooth brush and lightly scrub it off or if you can take a tweezers and pick it off but just be careful not to hit the polyp.

The algae seems to be stuck on quite well. I tried scraping it off with a scalpel but it would not peel away. I was thinking of putting the frags onto the ssndbed & letting the hermits give it ago.

Do you have pics? I guess the hermit crabs would be a good idea but I would suggest a dip for faster reuslts.

Ok I will try the dip. Where would I get such dips bearing in mind im in the uk.

There is a good flow on them atm. They have not opened in over a week but I can still see the orangey/red inside. I currently have a seachem coral disinfectant but I don't think it worked from the dip. Hydro peroxide sounds good though although I do not know how much to dose into a container

Thanks for the info I have looked it up & the chemist should have it. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow when I get some :)

If anyone knows the dosage for 2litres for hydrogen peroxide 6% & how long would be great.

With the dip, i did alot of experimentation I do 4 parts tank water to 1 part H2O2. I did 3:1 and melted a few of my zoas, so don't go crazy. Dip them for 5-10 minutes once a week for a few weeks and you will be golden.

Thats put me off now :s I woukd prefer a small dose as I don't want to kill them. Here in the uk the clem sells for £90 = $135 dollars so I dont want to risk losing them.

Can we see pics? If algae is on them and depending how bad you very well may lose them if you don't dip

You also need to get to the root of why you have algae on them. Algae if not controlled can start taking out corals very quickly. Are you testing your water parameters? If so, can we get the numbers?

put it in direct flow like blasting it but make sure other polyps can still open from flow...if thats the algae that im thinking...then brush it everday with a light brush even if no algae is coming off...u can even use magic eraser(original)...be patient and keep doing this...also dip in lugols iodine once in a while...
post some pics so i make sure its the algae im thinking...i have experienced this and have been successful..the algae will get soft and will come off like a scab....dont use any other dip except lugols or any dip u use before u put new corals(revive, melafix etc)..i have not use hydrogen peroxide so i cannot say much about it.

Ok I am at work at the moment but I will try to get some more info. The algae is only on a couple of polyps away from the colony & there is no other algae in the tank at all. Only thing I can say atm is that its like a browny green algae which seems to bot want to come off.

I had the same thing in my tank. Algae only growing on frag racks lol. The H2O2 works amazingly well for me however, and the 4:1 ratio never harmed my zoa frags.
