So I just got a elegance coral from my LFS.. And now I'm reading online that they can eat snails and small fish! Why wouldn't my LFS tell me that? Please tell me this is not true?!

It is true... its almost like having an anemone in your tank. They are a beautiful coral and one of my favorites. Don't worry to much, it isnt likely that it would eat a healthy fish... and adding CUC from time to time is always needed it seems...

Mine has a graveyard of snail shells around it lol. Fish arent too stupid, but snails, well, get ready to spend a little extra on clean up crew.

I wonder if they release a pharamone to attract snails. Ever person who has one find a snail graveyard. Makes me wonder about a pharmone for hunting.

I have no idea, but i swear it's like they are a magnet for snails. I probably lose 3-5 a month, and they are some large turbos. My trochus snails seemingly know to stay away from them though, no losses of them yet, but those dang turbos just cruise to their death LOL

wait til this gets to the size of a football- Just eye appealing !!

Mine is approaching Soccer ball size

I have no issues with elegance VS snails.

Is what I have in tank

I have mine placed by rocks that slightly hang over it too, you will lose some but it's natural and clean up crew need to be replenished overtime as most tend to not have a long lifespan anyway. No need to worry. :)
This is mine as of today's snail meal. Lol
They get really big which is nice.

Can you feed them a more meaty food to prevent it from eating the snails?? Love the look of the coral

No not really, for some reason, snails just "love" to be around these. I think it comes from them eating and if they lose their footing(say they are on a overhang) they fall into them and get eaten. And even those types that can flip themselves over will be stung back into their shell, and with these corals being so large even as babies, they can eat a whole snail easily.
But like I said above this seems to be more true with turbos more then others from my experience.
I feed mine a full piece of krill every 3 days along with whatever else it gets broadcast feeding.
They should be called the "hometown buffet" coral LOL
