My first elegance coral

I have a pink tip Aussie and there is no snail graveyard. I don't feed it or any of the other corals (or anemones) in my tank. Don't understand why people do.

That's crazy the same lfs sold me the snails an the elegance why wouldn't that be something you tell somebody!
Did you ask? Most stores that sell corals are probably gonna assume if you’re there buying a specific coral you know what you’re into unless you ask questions.

It’s always good to ask what they eat if they can... if they’re aggressive to other fish or corals. Can they sting or do they have any toxins.

I don’t think snails should be meant to be expendable some of them have pretty long lifespans. But they’re cheap and stuff in reef tanks WILL eat them. In fact a lot of things will eat other things in reef tanks. A few months I had a clownfish eat a shrimp. It’s not something that often gets talked about unless it’s something expensive being eaten or attacked but these things do happen pretty common. Just part of trying to have a confined saltwater ecosystem. All we can do is try to make things as happy as possible and if we don’t want the aggressiveness find out which is doing it and remove it.

I’d say though elegance corals > snails. I’d much rather a 10 year old elegance than a 10 year old snail.

Thanks, your right I should have asked.

I've had elegance corals in two different tanks. I don't remember it killing snails or conchs in my first tank and it isn't killing them in my current tank. My snails do die due to lack of algae growth, and the few shells are scattered around. None of the empty shells are right next to my elegance.

Now today, it doesn't look very happy...

Sheesh... wasn't aware of this. Just watched a good Tidal Gardens video and he referenced Elegance corals as wicked snail predators. I quarantine all inverts for 45+ days... I can't handle more QT work... hmm....
