ha that's crazy money must've been shocked to get that much :D ha i'm jealous great piece though and faviafreak that's a relief cuz i wasn't sure how much you were gonna get me for :)

I don't think anyone was faulting the seller, I think that 99.9% of the people were saying that that was a crazy price ;)
 
Its all about supply is low and demand is high.I will not be frag this chaice for a long time.If I do ever frag it should make good trade for all the LE stuff I drool over.Thats how I look at it.

I don't have a problem with what it went for...

If people want to pay $600 then by George I would sell it for $600!

I've always said that buy what you like for the price you're willing to pay... :)

Ktar what's the story behind it? Was it from a lfs? Did it use to be ugly? Do you know what indo area it was brought in from? What's the consensus on how all of the frags you have made have faired and approx how many frags have you sent out? Beautiful indeed.

ktar you must be the only one in our area that has this piece as this is the first i've heard of it very cool must be awesome to own
 
I don't have a problem that it went for $600 dollars either, if somebody has that much money to throw around God Bless them! I merely stated that the prices of corals are getting out of hand and as long as people keep paying ridiculous prices it will continue
 
Here is a little story that I shoulldn't tell.When I first saw this chalice I was like thats "O my God".My wife doesn't get into the corals much but when I showed her the picture she said I have got to have it.I laughed and told her he is not going to sell that much less a frag.After about a month later I was on ebay and I found the first frag for sale.I said wow this going to be interesting.In the meantime my wife told me to bid and she didn't care what it cost she wanted it.LOL!!Well I bid it up to $615.00 and lost.Lucky time ran out because my wife was typing in $5000.00 when it ended.Lucky me!!!!!So Email Ktar and just asked about a frag and he said he had one for sale.I think was a great deal.I buy corals I like and don't care if its LE or some cool name.I buy because I like it and I don't care what it cost.Now the frag didn't didn't have much color but I knew it would be a gem in the rough.Now I feel when mine gets where I can frag it I will have trading power.

YEa thats true that is one SICK chalice probably one of the best i have ever seen

Frag farmers, Whodah exoticfrags, Texas, Jason(ebay winner), SaraB, Keeperz, and local guy has the other half of the mother colony that is not fragged at all. The colony was acquired from the display tank of a LFS a few years back. I have offer him crazy money countless time and he always told me no. One day he call and he was willing to sell the whole colony for a price." I think he was High that day":). I left work early just to go get it i didnt want him to change his mind. That is how i acquired it and he has had the chalice since he started reefing which is like in 1996. It took me 4 years of nagging before he sold the chalice to me. Last year was the first time i fragged and sold some frags. But as of now i will not be fragging anymore.

Why does it always come down to price and always the same discussion? Its a nice piece that only a handful of people have and might be the reason behind the hate. The big bonus is knowing that the melting pot was not recently imported, ending all comparisions between two similar corals.
 
i agree totally.... i have learned that most of the nice corals hat require a large amount of money to aquire people all seem to bring up the money issue.... i have most of the LE chalices, lots of ultra acans, and alot of the LE sps, and people here in boise,idaho dont want much to do with me , and if i sell lcally, i ask half the retail for larger peices, but people always try to haggle and tell me that it isnt worth it..... so i juat tell them yo go to the LFS and buy his beat up tricolors that he always carries for like $50-$75..... which i know he only pays $5-$10 per colony.... if i like it i buy it.... sometimes i kick myself later cuz say for instance my micros, the macros are awesome! but in person they have the colors, but you have to have a magnifying glass to see all of themas 20 polyps are only like the size of a quarter...... anyways buy what you want..... if i had the cash, i would have paid 600 for a frag, but then again, i dropped 2.5k on a micro frag pack

it always comes down to price beacuse some people fell like they can charge whatever they want for a 1/2" frag, it's getting ridiculous imho...if I had a nice frag to sell I personally am not charging the full amount I could get for it, I've done that plenty in the past where I helped out a fellow hobbyist by giving a break on the price, I 'm not into the hobby to make $ I'm into to enjoy it, bottom line

Did you not forget that it was on ebay. The starting price was $.99.
