Pretty sure I can get some from local reefers so guess I'll start panhandlingyeah..if you can get it..seed it..but not from a bottle..jmo..![]()
Thx!Thats what it sounds like to me..So what you guys are saying i can peel some of this coraline up, break it up and it will seed faster?
Oh yes we always used to break the parts free on our powerheads and let them go into the tank lolSo what you guys are saying i can peel some of this coraline up, break it up and it will seed faster?
I just read thisOh yes we always used to break the parts free on our powerheads and let them go into the tank lol
Yup and for at least a few hours after do not skim or use socksI just read this
If you get a donation from another aquarist, you can achieve better results by mincing the Algae in water to create a “smoothie” of free floating cells that will spread when introduced into your aquarium. Mix well and add it to the water column via the outflow of your filter or powerhead!
Define slurry? Lol my badI know there's plenty on rocks I'm pulling over but I still plan to scrape some off the glass and slurry it into the new tank when I do the switch over. At this rate it looks like I painted my back glass purple.
I plan to break it up really small in a cup aggressively with something flat and then pour it back over.Define slurry? Lol my bad
Mortar and pestal (sp) or I even know some that have thrown a bunch in a clean blender with a little bit of salt water...I plan to break it up really small in a cup aggressively with something flat and then pour it back over.
@flampton would you do grind some up in some water? Hows it work does it release spores when ground or broken up? What would be best?
I used 4 bottles of that snake oil. 3 purple, 1 pink.Well to encourage spread I just scrape the surface (pump, rock, etc.) with an algae scrapper into a plastic bowl with aquarium water. Then I smash the flakes with the bottom of the algae scrapper and pour it back into the tank. (so basically a really terrible makeshift mortar and pestle). I probably don't grind it near fine enough to get the ultimate spread. Now that I'm actually thinking about it it is probably wise to add a little sand to the bowl as well to deliver a better 'grind'.
ARC Reef sells live bottled coralline. As far as I can tell they have two separate systems were they grow purple types in one and pink types in another. From the various reviews I've read the consistency suggests they're just scrapping and grinding up some from these tanks and bottling it and shipping it to you. The reviews suggest it works, but it's doubtful that the people who purchased didn't throw a frag plug or other contaminated object in at the same or similar time frame.

That sucks, on paper it sounds reasonable. My guess is that coralline don't want to sit in a bottle of water on the shelf. I think they say it needs to be used quickly but how would you know if it was fresh?I used 4 bottles of that snake oil. 3 purple, 1 pink.
zip, zero, nadda.
directions state there is also nitrifying bacteria in the bottle to roll your cycle.
but then states you have to have perfect params for the coraline to grow.![]()
Love yumas that is a pretty one for sure.Okay I figured here might be a good place to start. I've only one mushroom to get before I quit buying for awhile. That's a high end rainbow yuma that's tank raised. Something on this level or a little below? Any leads out there?
