My Tank Updates and Progress

This thread will be dedicated to my 20-gallon nano tank and any important updates/progress I want to share.

March 15th, 2022: I painted my custom stand.

March 16th, 2022: I set everything up and waited for the water to clear.

March 24th, 2022: I waited a week before adding my first fish, a blue damselfish and a purple dottyback. My impatient self rushed the process and was still learning about the cycling process. However, neither of the fish died during cycling, and I added bacteria to keep levels in check. Sadly, while doing some aquascaping, later something I never got to do while I was setting everything up because the rock was just handed to me, I accidentally killed my dottyback as I didn’t know he was in the rock when I took it out of the tank. The replacement died too from the stress of the new environment.

March 31st, 2022: I got a wave pump from Amazon and my light off Facebook Marketplace which I ended up accidentally breaking a few days later and had to ship it 20 minutes away from me to be fixed lol. Around this time I made my own DIY lid from a window kit and aquarium mesh which I later replaced with a DIY Waterbox Lid Kit.

April 2nd, 2022: I added a pair of clownfish which I appropriately named Marlin and Nemo.

April 4th, 2022: I got my first coral a blue ridge.

April 16th, 2022: I got the first member of my cleanup crew a cleaner shrimp who I named Jacques.

April 22nd, 2022: I got two more corals a zoanthid and GSP.

April 24th-27th, 2022: I accidentally killed my dottyback and the replacement died from velvet or ich. As a result I setup a qt for the future.

May 1st, 2022: Diatoms entered the chat.

May 5th, 2022: I got 10 hermit crabs for a cuc.

May 11th, 2022: I put my damselfish into qt and treated him and about a week later I put him back where he seems to be doing okay. I have just accepted the fact that there may be disease in my tank despite my fish acting and eating normally.

May 17th, 2022: I noticed the first spots of coralline algae appearing on the rocks and I saw my first pods.

May 20th, 2022: I got the chance to set up my Neptune Apex and worked on making a custom controller board.

June 18th, 2022: I got a diamond goby last weekend who has made my sand sparkling and a bubble coral. Next weekend I’m going to Reef-A-Palooza and I’m so excited!

June 26th, 2022: Meet Cookie my newest addition a West African Biscuit Starfish!

Lookin' good! I love the newest addition---what a beautiful starfish. Thank you also for the reminder that I can name my fish and stop calling them Big Clown and Little Clown.

Lol!! Mine are named Marlin and Nemo…my shrimp is Jacques, my goby is Mr. Gobes, and my damsel/hermit crabs don’t have a names!

July 5th, 2022: Cookie got his food stolen from him and he’s not happy about it! So if the hermit crabs get eaten well that’s life.

I did. An rose bubble tip anemone that sadly got stuck to my powerhead and died lesson learned, a GSP, alveropora, and some green cloves! I’ll get some good photos when they open.
