I have a 40 breeder. Stock list will be two occelaris clowns, one blue spot puffer, coral beauty, jawfish, mystery wrasse, and one other wrasse.

The mystery wrasse has been very passive so far with my clowns. Could I put a Christmas wrasse or a yellow coris wrasse with him?

I have a Red Christmas Tree Wrasse I recently added to my tank that has a Mystery wrasse, cleaner wrasse and ornate leapord wrasse. I have no issues at all. I have heard some Mystery wrasse can be aggressive. Mine is peaceful. The Red Christmas Tree Wrasse is one beautiful fish.

I have another tank with a Lubbocks wrasse, Melenarus wrasse, 2-yellow Coris wrasse, Linespot wrasse and Cleaner wrasse. No issues with those either. The Two Spot Bristletooth Tang is the bully of that tank. I had to rehome my Lawnmower Blenny because of the Tang.

Never heard of a Red Christmas Tree Wrasse. Do you have a scientific name?

I noticed that Divers Den is now listing minimum tank sized for a Mystery at 90G.

A mystery in a 40G with another wrasse is probably a bad idea

About 15 years ago I had a mystery wrasse in a 140 gallon that killed a pair of flame wrasse that I had within a day off adding them, and a trio of Bartlett's anthias within a week. I definitely wouldn't do it in a tank that size.

No, but I'm not sure it would've mattered over a period of time. Mystery wrasse get mean as they mature.

Halichoeres claudia

The LFS labeled this as a Red Christmas Tree Wrasse. I believe because the major coloring on this fish is red. Beautiful fish.

Have you only had one? was it pretty docile when he was younger? I’m asking this because it seems like these fish can be polar opposites of eachother
Ive had a mystery wrasse before he was one fo my favorite fish. they start out docile and friendly then one day something snaps and they go on a killing spree.
you def should NOT keep one in a 40G tank, especially with other wrasse.

LOL, my mystery wrasse was initially housed in a 16 gal fluval. Then upgraded to a 20 and now a 48. It's a pretty shy fish. Very docile. My yellow clown Goby in the tank was more of a bully. Maybe you didn't feed enough.

Lol I love how you just assume I don’t know how to care for an animal because it acted different than yours.
people these days online...

And to add to your statement, just because someone CAN do something doesn’t mean they should. And you should maybe take that heart when considering your fish choices and housing.
they have minimum tank sizes for a reason.

If I assumed I would have put it a different way. It's possible all species of fish don't fit a personality type, isn't it?

Yeah, there are suggested tank sizes. And they vary. Saltwaterfish.com suggests 30 gallons as a minimum. But some take this to a whole new degree. I'll do my research and take my chances. And I will share my experiences with others. Which is exactly what I've done here to help the OP make an informed decision.

Yes it’s possible, as every fish is an individual like us humans, but that doesn’t change the generally held notions of how “most” of them act. Which is what I and others have noted. Yours may be chill, and he may stay that way for a while like most.
and one day he may flip andkill things in your tank just like countless others.
that's how and why people make generalizations.

Instead of generally held notions I gave the OP some insight on a fish I currently keep.

Wow you are super rude and disrespectful for absolutely no reason.

I was doing the same and giving my experience with keeping the fish to the OP. so no I won’t “go pound sand”.
mill stay and politely help the OP since you can’t seem to have an adult conversation.
