Mystery wrasse compatibility

Halichoeres claudia

The LFS labeled this as a Red Christmas Tree Wrasse. I believe because the major coloring on this fish is red. Beautiful fish.
I suspected that it might be a claudia or maybe a Halichoeres biocellatus (my favourite wrasse), but have never seen 'tree' included in the common name.

The entire genus all have the same behavior. A mystery wrasse like a 6 line will often be shy and mild mannered as a juvenile. Then as they hit a certain age, or achieve terminal male, they become super territorial towards tankmates. This aggressiveness is often first against other wrasse or new additions.

But can be any fish. Do not add a wrasse to a tank with a mystery wrasse. 99% ò the time will end in the other wrasse’s death even if its larger.

I would be careful with any of the larger wrasse in tanks less than 100g.
I graduated from 55 to a 65 and now have a 180...in the tanks below 100g the melanarus wrasse (halichoeres melanarus) was a bit of a thug / nicknamed the Wrasshole. I was not comfortable keeping other wrasses just based on the sass he gave to any new tankmates. In the 180 (which has been the upgrade from hell, I lost all my fish.) I added the smaller wrasses first then the two larger (lunare and peacock) which are both still juvies. Pushy but not psycho as of this post. The wrasses added first were a set of 3 Lemon Meringue (Halichoeres leucoxanthus) a med sized yellow coris (Halichoeres chrysus) went in at the same time. Then 3 weeks later two exquisite wrasse (Cirrhilabrus exquisitus) and a pintail fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lanceolatus).
The lunare wrasse was bolder than the peacock but they appear to be evening out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that neither turns into anything more than pushy. I have 10 wrasses now and I'm pretty sure that unless it is a Tuskfish it isn't coming home with me to be part of the gang.
180g with a 30-40g sump / refugium / UV sterilizer / matrix + bio balls biomedia /DC protein skimmer

Wow you are super rude and disrespectful for absolutely no reason.

I was doing the same and giving my experience with keeping the fish to the OP. so no I won’t “go pound sand”.
mill stay and politely help the OP since you can’t seem to have an adult conversation.
I thankful for your guy’s help but I think you may have come at him and they way he cares for his animals and then he went on the defensive. I personally don’t see it as super rude. But thanks for the insight for everyone that has commented

His rudeness was removed by mods.
Telling someone to go pound sand is rude, period. And where did I come at him at all? I said it was funny that he thinks I don’t care for my fish because it acted differently than his, that’s in no way “coming at him”
I don’t see what you mean at all.
I’m the first to admit when I’m rude or coming at someone, and this wasn’t one of those times.

This part
Yea again not coming at him, just replying to his rude assertions that I don’t know how to keep a fish because it acts different than his did.
And honestly I’m done arguing with you over it too. That’s not what this forum is for and just getting further off track from your original question.
I offered my personal experience with the fish, take it or leave it, that’s up to you.

Bro I never said I wasn’t thankful for your input. And I don’t really care about this whole thing. Like I said before, thanks for sharing your expierence. Do you think he will go after my other fish one day

lol.

Hey bud. I'm not an expert. Just wanted to share my experience and one member thought that was irresponsible, lol. I have a mystery wrasse and christmas wrasse in a 48 gallon with no issues at all.

Others have said it could be a time bomb. We'll see. In this hobby we do our research and take our chances. I had a very docile 6 line in a tank then I added a red head solon wrasse. The 6 line was no longer docile. It went after the solon wrasse. But after some time (two weeks), it let it be. And the fish were fine together.

No one can tell you what will happen but they can give you some guidance. I just wanted to share my personal experience. But when someone badgers you for sharing, that kinda sucks.

Ya thanks for the advice. I might just have him be the only wrasse
