I keep hearing from different fish store owners in my state that the tigger pods by reef nutrition are sterilized for the sole purpose of you always having to buy their pods and they won’t reproduce.

Is this true? If so what pods do you guys get to seed refugiums? I have a mandarin and a wrasse who hammer the pod population constantly so I’m looking for something that I can feed and have them reproduce instead of just dumping a really expensive bottle of pods that will only have one lifecycle.

Thanks!

I would say Myth, given:

I believe these pods usually reproduce at lower temperature then we keep our tanks and will not reproduce as readily or at all in our tanks.

I buy my pods from a guy on ebay, ships from Tejas (texas) iirc. Good price and they do spawn on my glass regularly.
Mind sharing a link? I’m looking for some tisbee as they say those are more likely to reproduce and are more forgiving on temperature

This just seems like a lot. Given that other pods can just be dumped directly into sump and they’ll reproduce there instead of doing that on separate containers

I've always just dumped the bottle into a low flow section of the sump where I keep rock. Once a month or so, I rotate out the rubble rock from sump to display. And the rubble rock back to the sump.

Yeah I usually add mine when I do water changes so all wavemakers and return pump are off for at least 30 minutes. I also put them in a clean container with phyto for 20 minutes so they can eat something before getting devoured.
