Ok so it's been pointed out to me now that the BTA I bought today is missing its algae that keeps its coloring. I just figured I was buying a whitish anemone. Unfortunately for me whitish anemones are not healthy anemones. The store had a few other BTAs that were the same color (some larger as well) so i figured it was fine. It is nearly all white but with a little bit of transparent blue outline on the tentacles and a light pink tip (the very tip of the tentacles). Any suggestions on how I can take care of this guy? My clown has really taken to it today and I want to do what I can to keep it alive and it get it back to normal health. I had no idea there was anything wrong with it and the LFS didn't say anything about it. Kinda dissappointing but I gotta make the lemonade now so I could use any help/advice

Can we get some pics to see exactly what it is looking like.....it should darken once it gets some zooanxthelle...u can try feeding it some mysis or small piece of silverside. What type lighting do u use...

here is the pic. The camera lightens up any of the little color this guy has so its all white in the pics. I will be talking to the LFS tomorrow btw but I'm not sure that will get me anywhere. I'm so bummed and it's partially my fault for not knowing but I don't know why they would sell me this guy if he was so unhealthy. I bought some frozen mysis and will be dropping them right on the nem shortly

What is their return policy? That's like selling someone a dog with parvo. That nem should have never left the store. I'd bring it back and complain.

i dunno if they have a return policy. I agree though thats really lame of them. Its not like it was a guy on craigslist its a legitimate store with lots of product

If they sold it to you like that just take it back in to them and complain,You should be able to get credit back if you complain enough let them know what they did wrong

yes they had more. one of them was fairly large as well. At least 4 or 5 times the size of the one i bought. I am very upset about this and I would love to help this little nem out more than taking it back to that place. Any ideas at all aside from feeding it some mysis? Like is there a certain place in the tank i should place him or what not? Im guessing there is no easy way to recoop this guy. He is in a place with plenty of light and water flow already.

The nem will move where it wants to be,To help it recover its best to feed it small meals daily or every other day and keep the tank perameters stable.pick up some silversides it's one of the best foods for anemones, goodluck and keep us updated

I still say take it back. Don't mess with it and certainly don't feed it silversides! It can take literally months for them to color back up. And that's with almost daily feedings and spot-on water conditions. I propogate btas so I've nursed my share back to health. It's never easy and never guaranteed.

I understand that taking it back is probably my best option. I just highly doubt they will care or give me a refund or credit of any kind. I imagine they will just say once i bought it it became my problem

You could be right. Any store unscrupulous enough to sell a nem like that, probably doesn't have a return policy. In order to not stress it out further, I'd give them a call and see if they'd take it back, rather than bag it up again and take it back. Be stern with them. If they still refuse then you have no choice but try to nurse it back to health.

As others have said, they will roam where they want to, so no point in trying to place it anywhere in your tank. You really don't want your lights to be too bright. I know it's hard to judge what 'too bright' is so use your best judgement. Ideally you want your lights a little on the dim side but not necessarily dark. I would start feeding it mysis. Mysis is small and soft which means it will be easy to digest. do not feed it silversides. They are just too boney - even for a healthy nem.

Ok well im about to feed it some mysis. I will go to the store tomorrow and talk to them. I will not bag the nem unless they give me the ok to bring it back. When talking with the employees at the store today they clearly new aquariums which just makes things so much worse because they still sold me the nem most likely knowing it was not healthy. Planning for the worst and assuming they will not do anything for me what are your suggestions for attempting to nurse it back to health?(steps, methods, strategies, etc.)

The only thing you can really do is try to feed it, make sure your water parameters are good and stable, and make sure there are no other tankmates that could bother it - crabs and such.

Water should be around - 1350 mag, 400 cal, 9 dkh, very little to no nitrates and phosphates. stability is key.

Oh and don't feed it too much at a time or else it could just regurgitate it. Eating requires energy and bleached/sick nems have very little energy.
