Nearly all white BTA please help!

Ok so the BTA did just take a little bit of mysis. Hurray right. Anyways overnight it climbed to the top of the tank. I imagine now that the lights on he will start moving towards the bottom. When I checked on him this morning his mouth was open a little bit (just an open hole about the width of a pencil), his tentacles were a little longer but deflated. When I turned the light on they started to inflate (somewhat good sign I guess right?) anyways I will be leaving for the LfS soon. Does my nem seem at all like he could be fighting to recover because he seemed to eat the shrimp?

Ok update: I went to the LFS. They were reluctant to do anything for me and they said everyone and every LFS will tell u something different and that I can't believe everything I hear. They said they often got white anemones in their store and never had a problem before. In the end they offered me 50% store credit if I brought it back. I felt bad bringing it back and stressing it out but I just don't think I have the expertise to nurse it back to life. They gave me a green bubble tip anemone with a nice pinkish/redish foot. It has some real color and looks more healthy so I went with it. Acclimating it now

All I got to say is there are a lot of other fish stores in S.Ca. Trust me you can not believe what you hear at that store. Google it, there are no healthy BTA's with that color base/foot. Stubby tentacles are another tell tale sign of starvation. Give someone else your business.

Wow a 50% store credit...that's a joke! I would never step foot in that store again and would tell every local reefer you run into about there bad business...

I agree. This new BTA does look healthy though. Similar to pics I've seen from other reefers. I will never return there however. There are 3 LFS within a mile of me and each other and this one I hadn't been to until yesterday. The owner here was stern, all about business, and did not seem to have a large knowledge base even though they have a lot of product. The owners daughter, however, was very nice and very cute lol. I will be sticking to the other 2 stores. They have a smaller amount of livestock but seem very knowledgable in comparison

new guy. Has a nice neonish green glow about him that is hard to see in the pic. In person however he looks very similar to other BTAs. And his foot actually has color!!

Suggest moving the anemone into a crevice in the rock work in a low flow area, BTA foot/attach to rock. Give it a couple days to acclimate and then feed 1 tiny piece of raw fish/scallops/or clams. If it does not eat remove the piece and try again in a few days. Feedings only need to be 1 to 2 times (tiny pieces) a week until it begins to regain it's zooxanthellae. That one is still a far cry from healthy but it's an improvement.

Alrighty. Well it is in a corner furthest from the pump. It's still flowin of course but very low in that area. I know they will be moving around so I figured I'd place him in that corner near som rocks with cave/crevices and let him do the moving to where he wants to be. Gave him a little mysis to see if he would eat and he welcomed it much quicker than the BTA before

That one is bleached too by not nearly as bad as the first one. I'd leave it alone for now and try feeding it tomorrow if the tentacles are opened.

Bubbletip anemones love silversides can't believe someone actually said do not feed silversides lol.ya don't feed an entire silverside to that one I would give it small pieces for now.If you do enough research you will see silversides is one of the best foods for anemones just because some people lose anemones and blame it on bones in silversides doesn't mean anything.I don't think any fish that an anemone may capture in the Wild is gunna be deboned so please don't tell the guy not to feed silversides lol

Uh......in the wild, btas don't eat any fish, let alone huge boney ones.

Btw, I've never heard of anyone blaming a dead nem on mysis. So why just silversides? Do the math.

Not trying to be argumentative but I have to agree again with tatuaje08. Anemones in the wild do not eat boney fish, if they do it's a rare treat. I also do not like silversides either, for the reason that anemones have a slow gut the longer food is sitting in the gut the greater the chance of bacterial infections. Another fish getting past the clowns into an anemone would be a challenge. I like this article.

@DSP, you obviously have heard that silversides might not be the best food or else you would not have come out disregarding those claims.

Yup. And let's not forget that when in captivity, the game changes.

Yup I have heard it just like iv heard asterina starfish eat coral and bristle worms eat coral...When someone kills there anemone they blame bones in silversides lol it's a joke and that's why people that have done enough research still know silversides is one of the best foods.I try not to go by hearsay in this hobby instead I go by experience or others experiences that iv seen
