We've had this Carpet Anemone for 3.5 weeks and has been doing very well,.... until yesterday. As you can see, he looks deflated and sad.
The only thing that has changed in the tank, is we added a clean up crew. I don't know if he ate a snail or crab ?

I did move a power head.

The water parameters and lighting are the same.

I wouldn't say he looks sick, just not a happy guy like before.
Would he need iodide or a different additive ?

What do you think and any advise ?

The first pic is before & happy, the second & third is the last two days.

there is a treatment for carpets but I don't recollect the name of it. bump for your question

What's that, a antibiotic ?
Do you believe it has a bacterial infection ?
And why ?

It looks like it is drawing back from something. What is to the right of it?

Just two stony's. The small condy landed on the carpet a few days ago, but I did not see any ill affects on either anenome. I saw it as it happened.
Should I try moving the carpet, or leave it alone ?

I would leave it alone until one the nem experts chimes in.

Can you post your exact parameters? Lighting? Tank size? Inhabitants? Tank age?

This will help them to narrow down the root cause.

Yes.

Running for 3 months.
29g Coralife BioCube.
20lbs. Live sand.
30lbs dead rock.
Dr. Tim's One and Only Nano Bacteria.
2 clown fish.
1 Atlantic Anemone.
2 stony corals.

Large number of clean-up crews. Several varieties of snails & crabs. Added two days ago.
Could this crew have brought in something ?
Or ate a snail that's not agreeing with him ? (Acid reflux, so give him a Tums) lol

CadLights PLS-50 Nano skimmer and trying the
Tunze 9001 skimmer.

Kessil 150w pendant light.

No dosing yet.

Temp- 79
S.G- 1.024

IMO/E (( been keeping S. haddonis for about 20 years now )), it is fine --- just very annoyed from the sting from the other anemone.
While S. haddonis have very strong stings, and are very sticky, they don't always fare well when they come into contact with another anemone.

Many years ago (( before digital cameras were all around )) I had an E. quadricolor (( BTA )), walk over an S. haddoni, the S. haddoni looked awful for a couple of days, but was fine afterwards (( was in my care for a total of 16 years )).

With that said, I see 2 anemones together in that sized tank being a good idea long term. The S. haddoni will get well over a foot across. Also, keep an eye on it in general, would have liked to see the tank up and running for 3 more months (( at least )) before putting in an anemone.

That's good news. Whew,.....
It's funny how he balloons, puffs up, stretches his foot high, folds up ect....
But, he hasn't moved since placing him where he's at.

Like I mentioned, he and the condy will go into a dedicated tank soon. We don't get full green carpets like him around here, so we jumped on it.
It will be a 40g breeder and I have a ORPHEK pendant light for it.

So, you had one for 16 years, how wonderful !
Too bad you don't have photo's !

Do you feed yours ?
Add iodide ?

Ect....

I have a geriatric carpet. He really does not lke to touch anything around him. Yours looks healthy. It is not a good idea to try to move an established carpet.

The sooner you remove the condy, the better.

I fed mine frozen krill (( thawed )) once in a while. My current green one hasn't been directly fed in about a year and a half.

Never dosed iodine -- water changes are fine for that --- just keep Cal, Alk and Mag levels up.

I meant I didn't have a picture of the damage, here is a picture of it before I lost it (( lost it along with a red one to an infected one that I had received )).

The one on the right,

I want one of those so bad!

Trex, nice live rock and scaping.
What virus do carpets get ?

Thanks, that was my old 33 cube --- took that down about 3 years ago when I moved. At that point I had 5 S. haddonis, currently just have 2.

Don't believe that the actual virus have been found, but people have been successful treating with cipro --- of course that was found out about a year after I lost the tan one and a red one. Usually happens with newly shipped/imported ones.

Honestly even in the first pic it didn't look quite healthy as the mouth is open. The 3 things you look for in a healthy carpets are its fluffiness (well inflated), its mouth should be closed tight except when feeding and its should be very sticky to touch. You said you had it for a month and the tank is now 3 month old which means the tank's parameters were not stable enough for a carpet nem. 20ppm nitrate is also high. What about your other readings like PO4?
If the carpet had been recently shipped from oversea when you bought it...the placed in a fairly new tank with less than ideal parameters that will induce stress in the carpet nem and make it prone to bacterial infection.
In my opinion the best thing to do is to transfer it to a stable healthy tank if available or try to get your tank water parameters in ideal ranges. You can try to treat it with cipro for 5-7 days. If my memory serves me right it's 250mg per 10 gal. You obviously need a separate treatment tank for this. Temp should be raised up to 80 degrees and tx dose should repeat daily with at least 50% water change. There's a thread about this some where on Reef Central or R2R...can't remember. Good luck!

We watched a reef program that showed maybe, 50+ tan/brown carpets together and it was beautiful !
Surprisingly, we did not see any,.... anemone fish's with them ?

Question- what other anemone species will live together peacefully, with carpets ?
Any and all pics of yours would be great.

I have mixed different color morphs of S. haddonis with no issues,

Been 50/50 mixing an S. haddoni with an LTA (( M. doreensis )), one time the S. haddoni wouldn't stay settled (( was already existing, and hadn't moved in years )), however I currently have those in a 75 without issue. They will be separated in the next couple of months when I set up a new tank.
