Hello ,

I have a 75 gallon mixed reef tank it's been up and running for 8 years I currently have Marine betta Coral Beauty Angel and a clownfish.

Recently a damsel died couple months ago due to old age lol.

Need a new colorful fish that's:

Reef safe,
Colorful,
Unique.
Not a known jumper like a wrasse.

How about a Longhorns cow fish?
Absolutely love it,i played with a juvenile in a friend's tank it wasn't even scared.
He said he hasn't had issues with the poisonous skin etc.

I have a QT tank too. I have a big sump, total volume pushing is 90g. I feed spectrum pellets and frozen

Thanks
Kris

The cow fish are poisonous which you know, in a smallish system that could be bad news if anything were to happen. It would be a gamble. Depends on how bad you want it. Why not do some fire fish???

I have had a Longhorn for 2 years now. Great fish with a ton of personality. I originally had him in a 90 gallon tank and upgraded because of him. They grow incredibly quickly, faster then any other fish I've seen. They need the swimming space, especially when you have other fish in the tank to annoy them. They need to have calm tank mates because they will be easily outcompeted for food, so the betta and the angelfish wouldn't be good tank mates. They also get irritated easily and IMO die of stress more often then lack of food. I have had 3 die on me due to too much flow in the tank, not enough space, and stress from other fish.
They are a very rewarding fish to keep, if you do it right.
Feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns and I would love to help you out!
Just as reference, I got mine 2 years ago as a "Tiny", horn tips to tail tip was just under .6". He is now just passing 5.5" and growing about .5" every month or so. I do not feed to much and I think I will need to upgrade to a 7 or 8ft long tank for him sooner rather then later.

Here he is RN

Hands down...Midas Blenny! Our favorite fish, great personality, and very unique swimming style, beautiful blue eyes! The African variety has less yellow to them than the more common yellow variety and instead has more orange/peach tones.

Had fire fish before, that cb destroyed it. [emoji849]
Maybe i can catch the cb... using a trap one day

Love anthias! They can be difficult sometimes but they are really pretty and fun to watch. Might need to get a group of them

Hi
Do Longhorn cow fish get ich etc ? Any issues with poison do you run carbon.

Cb very aggressive with new comers for few days then he leaves them alone.

Would love to keep one and restart my carbon running process!

Does yours eat pellets?
Thx.....

Yes, ich is a major problem for them. No matter where I get them from, they always get ich and I always do a 6 week QT with copper. They generally don’t respond well to the copper so it is basically a hit or miss. I have had issues with toxins, espixalky in the 90 gallon smaller 4 ft tank. I haven’t seen any indications of toxins in my current tank, but generally I see smaller fish dying and corals retracting. I always run a large amount of carbon, 40 oz a month, I change it out every month.
Mine wouldn’t eat anything except brine or red seaweed for about 2 months, and I have slowly gotten him to eat pellets and other foods. His favorite pellets are SA hatchery blend. I feed it as a treat because it isn’t cheap!

Since no one has said it yet, longhorn cowfish get well over a foot long. I wouldn't recommend one for a 75 gallon tank.

Midas blennies and hawkfish are among the best fishes in the hobby. Really any tank should have one of each. But, they are both potential jumpers.

If you get a screen top for the tank, then there are all sorts of options.

I would second this. I lost my Nicodemus a few weeks ago and my tank is not the same without her. She was a feisty thing and bit me all the time but I LOVED her.

I will say I think any fish will jump given the right circumstances. My lyretail has jumped, my scooter blennies, midas, angels... sometimes they ended up in the overflows sometimes not. Only lost the scooter because of it. Screen tops are a must IMO

TOTALLY AGREE. A cowfish wouldn’t be well suited for any tank under 5 feet long

Thanks. I've decided to keep my screen top...

If there's more options now pls lmk!

Cow fish out, midas blenny in !

I guess another angel is a no no right they'll fight to death.

Can i keep red, purple and helfrichs firefish...
Couple of each in the same 75g?
Bio load is less so that might look awesome !

I'll catch my cb angel if i get fire fish.

Also lyre tail hog fish, will it eat coral, inverts?

Thx

The hogfish will eat inverts and other small fish.
What size copperband do you have?
Firefish tend to be better alone or in a bonded pair, which is hard to achieve most of the time.

Longnose hawk, flame hawk, midas benny, lyretail anyhias & royal gramma are nice colorful small fish I've had that played well with others & were relatively easy. Definitely use a screen top if you get the longnose, my 1st jumped out the smallest hole.

Cb angel that is about 5 inch. Killer of fire fish....

Will more fire fish in DT mean they'll kill each other

Will lyretail hog eat blue leg hermit, trocus snail? If not I'll stay away
