My bubble tip anenone used to be in its favorite spot. It moved and now it does not inflate huge like it used to. Has anyone experienced this? For the past two days it does not eat like it used to. I am posting a picture of what it used to look like. It is now green and pink and does not inflate. I am worried about it.

Just to clarify, are both pics what it used to look like or is one of the 2 the way it looks now?

This is what it looks like now but the blue lights are on.

I don’t think there’s a problem, unless something is off with the pic. The second pic is much more in line of what i’d Expect a rbta to look like. They do move and can go days without fully expanding. Have you changed your flow or lights?

Are your params stable?

They really don’t need much (any) extra food as long as they get good light.

Pic of my 6 yo nem and her daughter. Maybe the lights are off but seems to me your 2nd pic looks more like this

I had a few water problems. No ammonium or nitrate but when I changed the water it got cloudy. And then I trimmed a coral in the water. I changed the water about 5 gallons and added bacteria. Water seems fine but wonderful will my anenome ever be like it was before. I had a pulsating Xenia that died during the past two days.

Yes yours are beautiful. Mine looks sort of like that but green with pink tips. Why did mine used to be brown and expand so much?

See it was brown and huge

I still don’t see anything wrong with it. In the first pic you posted it actually didn’t look as healthy IMO.

Thank you for your opinion and observation.

Perhaps it’s the lights but brown to me would not be the color of a healthy bubble tip anemone. How long have you had it like that?

About 3 months

FWIW I think it looks fine now. Maybe if you can catch it without the blue lights tomorrow and post another pic to confirm.

Also as long as it’s attached, open even if not completely inflated and no gaping mouth I’d say you have a healthy nem that went through a bit of a transformation :)

Thank you I will keep you updated on its progress.

I have some RBTA that are the same color as your first pic and also turned into the color of your second pic. Mine moved, changed color, got stressed and then split. In two weeks time it changed its color back to the first pic.

Not saying that is exactly what is happening to yours. But would be interesting if it did.

I also have RBTA that are rainbow varieties. The first pic has those rainbow colors too but they don’t stay that way when inflated. Whereas my true rainbow BTA do stay that way all the time.

Thank you!!! I will keep you posted!

To the right of the bta, you have what appears to be a Devil's Hand. I use to have a green one ~10 years ago. It will regularly shed. I wonder if the bta shriveling coincides with the softy shedding.

Also, I use to notice this appearance with my rbta's for a few hours after I would do water changes with red sea coral pro, I believe due to the large alk difference between the new water (~14) and the tank water (~7.5-8). I have since switched to red sea blue bucket (~7.7-8) and dose to maintain an alk of 8.0 and have not recently seen my btas appear like this anymore.
