Hi,

I'm looking to buy a return pump for my 40G tank with a 20G sump but I'm on a budget, so I'm looking for something affordable but not crappy. My return line is 3/4 and I have a Eshopp S Eclipse overflow box.

Thank you in advance.

Eheim 2000 Compact is a nice pump and it moves a lot of water. I also have a Sicce 2.0 as well for my 40 breeder, when I get the tank up and running I will play with each pump to see which I like better.

If you're on a budget...
Aqueon QuietFlow 1700 Submersible Utility Pump
This pump is adjustable and is rated upto 617 gph. Plus it's $40 on sale and has some good reviews.

Thank you all for your quick suggestions. I look at the reviews on those pumps and I will try the Rio 1700. It has a great reviews on Amazon with a good price.

I have been running the quiet one pro 3000 on mine for the last couple of years. I've been happy with it.

It may have great reviews on Amazon -- But it doesn't have the best reviews among hobbiests here. So be careful, it may not stand the test of time. The one's I and others have recommended hold up well.

My experience with Rio pumps is typically been not so great. Hopefully I was just unlucky, as I know some have used them for years without issue.

I agree with you Rakie. I see so many options for the pump online that sometimes is hard to make a good choice. For now, I have to go easy with the setup but in the run probably will upgrade to a better equipment. Same thing will happens when I decide to get the skimmer, a lot of choices and a good/bad reviews but different prices.

Correct. I would just be weary of reviews on Amazon, look for reviews here. You can still purchase on Amazon, but odds are, you'll get WAY better information and experience on r2r, RC, etc etc.

I am running a Quietone 2200 on my 40b, a little over kill but it was on mt 72g. I have been running it for at least 5 years as well

I recently set up a 40B. Was trying to go without a sump but now I'm adding a 20L. I'm a Mag Drive guy, but trying to spare a few bucks and went with the Rio 1700. Hopefully it does ok - reviews were pretty good.

Eheim and forget about it. Runs forever without fail from my experience after 9-yrs on my 60-gl cube.
