So ive been out of town for work for a couple months and have had someone taking care of my tank. I got back home yesterday and my tank is being over ran by aptaisia. I have bought few peppermint shrimp but am afraid the aptaisia are too big for the shrimps to take down. They're huge! What else could I do to get rid of them? I have tried Aptaisia X in the past but it just seemed to make the *******s spread.

Aiptasia X and the shrimp are your best bets. I've tried everything. The best other option is the wand but its spendy. Everybody has thoughts on the issue but those are the only sure things. Everything else is a crapshoot.

I've actually had pretty good luck with AptasiaRx... you just have to be patient and look to see where the base is BEFORE you nail it... then when you are... just pile it on in that one spot...

Sorry for the outbreak. When I have them pop up, I take a tooth brush to them. Not sure if it would work for you.
Have fun reefing!

Every option has pros and cons. FYI while boiling water successfully kills aiptasia completely other tank inhabitants will not survive. This holds true for gasoline and all other poisons.

I have had good luck with both. Do you turn your pumps and p-heads off while using the ap-x? Just asking, because if you have them running the spores can spread throughout the tank.

if you can pull the rock out, some people I have known have burned them off with a lighter real quick and then put it back in the tank and had no issues. Whenever I see aiptasia i get a berghia nudibranch. They might not eat the huge ones, not sure. They also take some time, but they do work!

I've only had to deal with a few thank tha lawd/knock on wood..I've tried aptasia x, which clearly hurt them, but they'd always come back, tried boiling water with no luck..I did see a demo of the wand at a local club meeting and..that thing is AWESOME..if you have a local club/forum, or just know some local reefers, try to get a few people to pitch in on the purchase and then pass it around..then everyone wins.

Now on to what has actually worked for me..this is only relevant if you have access to hypo needles. (My mom is diabetic..I'm not a junkie or something lol)
Anywho, suck up some lemon juice, and inject it directly into the bad boys. 1-2 ml seems to be more than enough..it will not bother corals *disclaimer* I am not liable to damage of coral haha

Last week I injected one that was in the middle of a frag of half fire and ice and half scrambled egg zoas..they didn't even seem to notice.

If you choose to go this route, I suggest only doing a couple at a time so you don't foul up your water..the key is to get it IN the aptasia, not just squirt it on them.

Good luck, and I hope this helps!

I had some big ones go down to the berghias. It takes 2 or 3 to take them out. The beghias get into crevices where we can't reach and devour the baby aptasias. I didn't get complete eradication because after the berghia population collapsed the aptasia came back.

Here's me lasering my tank... While its quite satisfying and fun if advise against it.

Peppermints actually worked for me finally. Before that aptasiax and kalk solutions worked ok. Ive dunked rocks into double dose kalk solution for a week. Then sundried for a week. That works well. hypo salinity doesn't work. Blowtorch works well. Boiling water seemed to spew babies everywhere. Treating the rock out of tank for the expelled material to be away worked best other than peppermints. If all else fails blowtorch it.

I've heard file fish or copperband butterfly can make quick work of those aiptasias, but it will also much on other corals (zoas/palys) most likely.
Joe's juice, kalkwasser, laser (be careful with its use), and others, but personally I've never tried these methods.
