He has gone near the flow of the hob as well as right next to the sponge filter

^^ This means velvet is likely, as he is trying to relieve respiration issues going on inside the gills.

Try to get some formalin or acriflavine when you go to the LFS, in addition to copper.

The FW dip will help, but because this is velvet you will need to risk getting copper up to full therapeutic within 24 hrs. Chloroquine would be ideal for this situation, but don't waste time trying to obtain it if you don't already have it.

Will difference in ph shock the fish? The only good freshwater I have is the rodi

Rodi is fine. The ph wont matter for the 5 minutes the fish in the bath. Just match temp and time it for 5 minutes.

Hey guys, only 3 spots on him today. Have done multiple baths and am now treating with copper along with the rest of the concoction. However, he won't eat. I have a artificial cave in my freshwater beta tank that is covered in algae and am wondering if I can throw it in the qt with him? Will the bacteria in it be dangerous? Should I soak it in saltwater for a few hours first?

Don't put anything from the freshwater tank into your QT. I'm more concerned with die-off causing ammonia issues.

If I put it in a bucket with saltwater for a few hours and then moved it would it be ok? I'm just desperate to get him eating

I really don't think that's going to help. And no, it would continue to die and break down in the QT causing ammonia issues. Freshwater algae isn't likely to survive or entice fish in saltwater. You'll do better rubberbanding some algae soaked in garlic to a small rock. You can even try the red algae since it seems to be more enticing than the green tends to be for picky fish.

That's definitely velvet, based on photos and description. A freshwater dip would provide temporary relief, acriflavin bath isn't a bad idea as said.

You'll want to act quickly, as the gills are far worse than the body appears at this stage :(

Hey guys, just giving you an update. All of the spots are gone except for what looked like an external parasite latching on from the inside portion of his scales in the middle of his lift side. I manually removed 2/3 of it gently and he seemed to be much happier. I eased off on the copper treatment to try and get him to eat. Not spots have returned (knock on wood). He is still hanging behind the hob (literally behind, not swimming into) but other than that physical signs externally seem to be improving as of now

Copper will hide all symptoms within few days, but this is not enough to eradicate the parasite. You would still want to treat again for 30 days at therapeutical concentration.

How is your golden doing? Hoping all is well.

Shelley

Unfortunately didn't make it. He died about a week ago. Unfortunate that the fish was sold to me with velvet. Ended up having a wound on its side as well (blended in with its pattern very well) wound got infected. Combo of both ended up doing it in :(

I am sorry to hear that. They are so cute. Velvet is so nasty. . I hope you have better luck in the future.

Shelley
