Need help identifying.....

I need help identifying the growth on my rock. It is not stringy and doesn't blow off the rock with a turkey baster. I think it's coraline algae but my husband said coraline algae is purple or pink. So, what is this if it is not coraline algae?

Coraline can be many different colors from pink, purple, green and red just like what it looks like you have. I'd say red coraline.

In the first pic , it looks kinda thick and velvety. I’d feel it with your fingers.

I’m guessing it’s an algae. Like a cotton candy algae.

Yup. Good call. Should also come off with a toothbrush. Corraline won’t.

I tried a toothbrush nd it doesn't come off. Guess kchristensen8064 is right and it's red coraline. Thanks guys
