Need help picking out a rodi unit live im a small 1 bedroom apartment with only a 20 gallon long heavily stocked reef tank and a 10 gallon sump so dont need anything to big or crazy but want it to be efficient plz help

Get a 3-4 stage unit from bulk reef supply and get the faucet adapter set. A 5 gallon bucket from lowes or any home store and a shut off float to put on your bucket so it doesn't overflow in case you forget it's running. Just make sure you have the di chamber on that ro unit.

thx bud

I love my Typhoon Extreme 3 from Air, Water, Ice, but the Bulk Reef Supply units are supposed to be pretty good too. Make sure you get one that has a DI section, not just RO.

What about the typhoon 5 stage seems about the same as the typhoon 3 minus the GPD but i only need it for a 30 gallon so id go for the lowest GPD since its way cheaper but that is the only difference i see unless there's more to it?

Oh no it's the same company but of it being the extreme typhoon 3 its just the typhoon 5 stage both rodi

I looked up the 75gpd version. Typhoon5 comes with auto shut of and tds meter in some stores. Though I didn't see a price except on amazon. Cost a little more thank the link I gave you but makes up for it in extras.

I think it's almost the same. I suspect the 3 is a little bit different design from the normal 5 stage. If you want, I could go compare them for you, but it looks like you're going for the one from BRS?

Go with as high a GPD as you can afford. You'll only get its rated GPD at ideal water pressure (I don't know about you, but my water pressure tops out at about 40psi, whereas you want about 60 - and in an apartment, it's likely to be markedly less than ideal.) And trust me, it's excruciating to be waiting hours for water to make when you have an emergency.

The Air, Water, Ice units are sold directly from the manufacturer. airwaterice.com

I owned a Typhoon III and sold it for a Spectrapure MaxCap. No comparison at all, light night and day difference. DI went from 150 gallons up to 830 measured gallons on the very first cartridge.

I am currently in the process of buying a RO unit. I am looking at the one from BRS 4 stage plus so it has the TDS meter with it. It's not too expensive so it might work out for you as well

The BRS units use too coarse of sediment filters to protect the downstream filters and membrane so they do not last as long or work as well. The result is more frequent replacements driving the cost of ownership up. Also pass on the inline type TDS meters, they lack the accuracy of a good handheld which costs the same but are much more versatile. To check a RO/DI you need 3 TDS readings and the inline only gives you two so you cannot calculate your rejection rate.

I have the BRS 5 stage unit and I have switched out the sediment filter from the 5 micron that comes with it to the 1 micron (.06) and I change that filter every time I change the DI resin, which is about every six months or when my water reads 1 TDS. I change the carbon filters (the first one also switched out) every year and the RO filter every two years. There is a lot less rejection this way and I get water three times quicker than original.

I have a degree in Marine Biology (water), but if I needed advice I would ask Desert Rat. He is right about the BRS unit not being set up perfectly.
