The hole in the top of the durso allows air in, too little and a syphon starts, too much and it gurgles. It's literally like a throttle. An air valve provides some fine tuning.

I don't want to spent 9 or 18 dollars on something that I don't know if it work. Racin2438.

Anyone own a Maggie muffler who could send me picture of the inside so I can try to recreate one.

You won't spend 9.00 cuz it will cost you 18.95.....I install these on all the tank I set up and service. And if you don't like it which would be impossible you can always send it back. But I assure you ....you will not send it back. You will wonder why you didn't get it sooner..

^^^ Really it's only 19.00 bucks....how can you lose it you don't like it , send it back and get your refund. Wow

The water level should be around the middle of the T or slightly above it. Hopefully the top cap was not glued on. Get a new cap start with a small 1/8" hole on the middle top and slightly increase size until the water level above is achieved. If it doesn't adjust properly there is probably more water than the durso can handle.

I would seriously consider switching to a bean/herbie. That muffler thing isn't going to stop the flushing. A full siphon is the only way to go for dead silence of your drain. And you do use a valve on the drain for full siphon drains this is normal. If you set up a Bean, you only need 1 valve on the full siphon. No valve is needed on the emergency or open channel drains.

Durso style drains are archaic.

All ten Maggie mufflers I have installed, are absolutely dead quiet, only time it has some noise is when I am servicing tanks, and water flow starts to go back over the overflow box. Other than that, they is no noise.

Maggie muffler sounds too expensive for a small cap that looks just like a pvc pipe cap. I rather spend my money on something better.

Its more than just a piece of pvc pipe cap, its how its designed and there is more than one piece
