Found a small puddle by my sump today. I'm afraid it's coming from the sump. It's a 125g glass aquarium sitting on a concrete floor and upon closer inspection I see a small gap I did not realize was there when I first set it up. It's in the middle of where the tank sits on the floor. The corners are flat on the ground but there is a gap in the middle.

I obviously need to put something underneath it to level the pressure, so I'm going to drain it and run to the hardware store. Should I use 1/2" plywood underneath? Or is some kind of foam board better? Since it's a glass aqueon tank sitting on a concrete floor rather than a stand I didn't know which to use. Help quick please, and thank you!!

edit: now thinking about it, do I need a new sump? has the damage already been done? I soaked up the small puddle with a towel, it hasn't come back so it must be a slow leak somewhere? I triple checked, it's not coming from oversplash from my ATS or anything else like that.

You need to identify where the leak is coming from. Are you sure its not the plumbing before it goes into the sump like an elbow or something? If its the tank you should drain and fix and or replace. That's a decision you will have to make yourself. A 125 is not cheap and I"m not sure that Petco has 1/gallon going on right now.

Also make sure whatever you put the sump on is level.

Is a 1/2" piece of plywood ok? Or do I need foam under the plywood too.

I would definitely add at least a half inch to three-quarter inch piece of sturdy foam underneath the tank. I have a three-quarter inch piece under my 135 and it has a foil backing on one side of it, not sure the brand name and there's no way that I can look at it but I would definitely put something as a self leveler / stress reliever so to speak that is more forgiving than just a piece of plywood.

Concrete floors are never level. It's best, with a large tank such as a 125, to have it on a stand and level the stand using shims.

My sump is a 125 on a stand I built.

Hope you find the leak soon.

Crisis averted for now I think. Drained it but no cracks that I could find. Put a board under and shimmed it. Possible the water was from somewhere else. I will see and watch for signs of leaking on the board.
